3D Art grade 10

Week 1, Feb 1, 2023. Making a edublog

-This week we learned what were going to do in this course and we played a human scavenger hunt.

-My biggest struggle this week was trying to fill out the human scavenger sheet because lots of people are new to the course as well.

-My biggest success this week was when I completed the human scavenger hunt sheet.

-My goal for next week is to come up with good ideas for my sculptures.

Week 2, Feburary 9, 2023. making scrafito tile (life below water)

This week we made scraffito tiles. I did my tiles with Hayley and Kianna and the process wasn’t too bad we had to first make our clay square then we drew down what we wanted to do on a yellow piece of paper and made sure it was connected to Hayley and Kianna’s drawing as well then drew it in sharpie. After our clay squares were dried out for a while we had to cut them into perfect squares then we painted three layers of underglaze on them. Once the underglaze was dry we put the piece of yellow paper with our sharpie drawing on it on top and pretty much traced the sharpie lines so it showed up on the clay then we scratched out the lines that were on the clay then put it on the shelves to get put in the Kiln.

-my biggest struggle this week was probably drawing the flower on the paper because I kept changing my mind and wanting to do different things.

-My biggest success this week was probably that the tile worked out and didn’t break in the Kiln or fall apart.

-My goal for next week is to start my life below water sculpture.

-For my inquiry project I would like to make maybe 2 plates that will be painted similarly to these plates.

-To get started and begin this project I will need to start off with a piece of clay and make it into a big sheet of clay and then get the plate mold put the clay onto the sponge thing then put it onto the plate mold and cut it into the plate shape.

The threat to this starfish is a disease that’s killed out a lot of them along the Pacific coast. Scientists say that its the largest disease epidemic in wild marine animals. this disease was caused by climate change and the sea-surface temperature rising because of human-caused climate change.

We can help the starfish by helping with climate change. You can help with climate change by doing things like having an electric car or donating to climate change organizations. You can also help by going to the beach and picking up garbage even small acts like that can help.

Week 3, february 16 2023, Monster mug

reference pictures

This week I worked on my monster mug I started off with the base of my mug I started with a slab of clay and rolled it out and cut it into a rectangle I rolled some texture stuff onto the rectangle and connected it to the shape of the mug. I rolled out another piece of clay and traced around the mug to make a circle to make it into the bottom I went over to the sink and made two handles just in case one of them doesn’t turn out very and to see which one looks better. I then added the two eyes and started carving out the mouth.

My success this week was being able to put the face on the mug and finding a texture that looks like a cookie monster.

My struggle this week was trying to make the handle at first I didn’t know how to do it then Mx.Vittie helped me with it and it turn out a lot better.

my goal for next week is to start the underglaze.

Week 4, February 23, 2023, Monster Mug

This week I started off by under-glazing my handle because it was a smooth surface and I didn’t need to have it fired beforehand after that I fired it then the next day I worked on under-glazing almost all of it except the inside and the bottom.

My success this week was being able to complete the outside of my mug with blue underglaze.

My struggle this week was definitely with the inside of my mug where the walls of the mug and the bottom of the mug connect because it kept cracking and it was hard to keep covering up the cracks.

my goal for next week is to do the overglaze for the mug.

week 5, march 2 2023, finishing monster mug and doing inquiry

This week I started off by finishing the underglaze of my monster mug

Then after it went into the kiln after underglazing I overglazed it.

Cookie monster mug

Abby Neufeld

A cookie monster mug is a cookie monster and a mug combined. On the outside of the mug is where his face is located. For its handle, I decided to make it look like a chocolate chip cookie because he’s a cookie monster and that’s what he’s known for.

We started with ceramic clay and made it into a mug shape. After it was in the shape of a mug I then underglaze it mostly royal blue except for the inside the eyes and mouth and the handle. Making the handle look like a cookie was pretty tricky because it kept looking like a giraffe after I changed the colors a couple of times I ended up fixing it and then it looked like a cookie handle.

I started working on my inquiry project this week too I started off by making the actual plates then I made sure that they dried quite a bit before I took them off the plate mold.

My success this week was probably finishing my monster mug and starting my inquiry project.

my struggle was probably starting my inquiry and being able to shape the clay into the right plate shape.

my goal for next week is to start doing my life below water project.

Week 6, march 9 2023, life below water sculpting

This week I started off by making my base of the starfish by making the newspaper star shape and putting clay over it to make the base.

After that i made some texture on it and get some slip and put it into a squeeze bottle to do the dots on the starfish.

My success this week was making the newspaper into the shape of a starfish.

My struggle was figuring out how to do the dots on the starfish

My goal for next week is to paint my starfish.

Week 7, march 30 2023, life below water painting

This week I started off by painting the base of my starfish purple and then I started to paint the dots on after I was done with the purple.

My success is that I painted the purple base for the starfish and got to start the dots.

My struggle was figuring out where to put the white dots.

My goal for next week is to finish my starfish.

Week 8, April 6 2023, finishing life below water.

this week I finish my life below the water by adding more detail to my starfish colors and shades.

My success this week was finishing my starfish because it has taken me a while to do it.

my struggle was being happy with the colors of the starfish and not painting it over again.

my goal for next week is to glaze my plates for inquiry.

E-Fauna starfish

march, Ceramic & Acrylic

Abby Neufeld

E-Fauna starfish found in the Pacific Ocean in Bc. These starfish have been doing not too well lately there’s a disease that has been killing out a lot of them.

The disease is caused by climate change and is very deadly to the E-hauna starfish but if we can try as much as we can to stop global warming and climate change then maybe we can also end this disease. For the starfish I made sure that I had a texture for it because the starfish have lots of texture, they also have little white dots scattered on certain spots of the starfish the dots were placed only where they would be placed naturally on a starfish.

Week 9, April 13 2023, Working on inquiry

This week I worked more on my inquiry and fixing up some of the colors on my plates.

my success this week was being able to redo the underglaze for the white part of my blue paint because it started looking really messy so I redid it.

My struggle was finding the same colors that I used before for my plates and having to match the colors.

My goal for next week is to glaze my inquiry project.

Week 10, April 20 2023, working on an animal mask.

This week I figured out what animal I was making the mask for and started drawing out what I’m going to do.

My success this week was figuring out that the animal that I wanted to do was a koala.

My struggle this week was figuring out what animal to do because I’m very indecisive and it took me a while to choose.

My goal for next week is to start my mask.

Week 11, April 27 2023, starting paper mache mask.

This week I started working on the base of my mask and putting it together with cardboard and tape.

My success this week was making the cardboard into the base shape of the koala.

My struggle was trying to make the mask look like a koala and not like a mouse.

My goal for next week is to finish the cardboard base for the mask.

Week 12, May 4 2023, paper mache

This week I covered my mask base in paper mache.

My success this week was finishing all my paper mache on the mask.

My struggle was figuring out how to put the paper mache on certain parts of the mask and have it not fall off.

My goal for next week is to start painting the mask.

Week 13, May 11 2023, painting mask.

this week I started painting my mask since last week I finished doing to paper mache.

my success this week was completely covering the koala in paint.

my struggle was finding the right shade and color of grey for the koala.

my goal for next week is to try to finish it.

Week 14, May 18 2023, working on koala

This week I worked on painting the koala mask.

My success this week was coming up with a plan for what I’m going to paint.

My struggle this week was having to color-match colors each day.

My goal for next week is to start the fur details on the koala.

Week 15, May 25 2023, painting details

This week I started painting the details of the koala like the fur and the nose details.

My success this week was getting the texture of the fur painted on.

My struggle was having to take my time painting it and not rushing through it.

My goal for next week is to finish the mask.

Week 16, June 1 2023, finished mask.

Paper mache product

Cardboard, tape, paper mache, acrylic paint.

05-29-2023

Abby Neufeld

For this mask, we needed to start by measuring the strips of cardboard to our face to make sure it fit. We started layering paper mache over the mask base after we were done with the mask base. I painted the mask with acrylic paints to create the koala color and the fur on the koala as well as all the other details. The koala for me represents more of a cuddly, caring, and loving type of person and that’s the type of person I try to aspire to be because everyone needs a caring person. That’s why I wanted to do a koala because of all there aspects of them

My success was finishing my koala paper mache mask.

my struggle this week was glazing my plates for inquiry because they didn’t fit into the bucket so I had to paint them with the glaze instead of dipping them.

My goal for next week is to have my inquiry completed.

week 17 June 8 2023, finishing plate inquiry

Patterned plates

Clay, underglaze, glaze

June 8 2023

Abby Neufeld

My idea for the patterned plates was to make some cute plates that you can eat on. My project did change a bit because in the end I just wanted the plates for decoration. something I learned when making my plates was how to use the plate molds and also how to glaze something if it’s not big enough to be fully submerged in the glaze.

my success this week was finishing my inquiry.

my struggle this week was having to glaze the plates.

my goal for next week is to make another inquiry project.

Week 18 June 15 2023, working on painting inquiry.

My success this week was that I made the whole back of the doodle painting page blue without risking anything that I wanted to keep.

My struggle was trying to get inspiration for what I should paint on it.

My goal for next week is to finish the cleaning of the classroom assignment.

Studio maintenance Project

For the studio, maintenance project Hayley and Kianna decided to do the brushes and tools under the underglazes. The reason we wanted to do that was that we think it would be easier for people to find the tools when there making clay and we think it will stay cleaner this way because it’s quite obvious where you’re supposed to put everything and so it makes it easier to know where it goes.

Week 19 June 22 2023  last week of school

My sucess this week was that I finished all my writing and edublogs.

My struggle was thinking about what to write for my edublogs.
