community connection – Mr. Romani
For my community connections outreach project, I got the opportunity to interview Mr. Romani. I chose him for my interview because he is one of the reasons I’ve wanted to peruse the same career path as a Tech Ed teacher like him since I was in 6th grade. Mr. Romani is a senior tech Ed Teacher at riverside secondary school. He has been working as a tech Ed teacher for 20 plus years. Below are Mr. Romani’s answers and thoughts on the following 6 questions.
Question 1 – Can you explain your roles and responsibilities with your current position?
‘‘I am presently working as a senior Tech Ed Teacher at Riverside Secondary School. My responsibilities include ordering material and coordinating projects with students. Assessing each students work and providing assistance wherever and whenever I can to ensure success with all my students.’’
Question 2 – What obstacles have you faced to get where you are today?
‘‘Ongoing challenges with various policy changes, social changes and technological changes.’’
Question 3 – What advice would you pass on to someone interested in what you are doing?
‘‘I believe this is a wonderful job, but can be high stress. There are tone of challenges you face dealing with people at all levels every day. That may sound scary, but you also have the opportunities to change someone’s life in positive ways. The little things that you do will likely come back to you and make you feel like you’ve made a real difference…. Because a lot of the time that’s exactly what we get to do… make a positive impact!’’
Question 4 – Why are you passionate about your job or role?
‘‘I love the chance to change/improve people’s lives every day. You may never truly know how much of an impact you’ve had until years later, but when you realize that difference you know what you’re doing is all worth it!’’
Question 5 – What is your favourite part about your job or role?
‘‘The interaction with other people… building relations and helping to create positive changes. I also like constructing, problem-solving and being able to exercise my creativity side. There’s a ton of plus’ that I have for this job and I love coming to work… in fact I often don’t think of it as work, it’s a consistent hobby that I get paid to do.’’
Question 6 – what do you like least about your job or role?
‘‘The politics of the job is the worst. Some time people that make BIG decisions have little to no idea how it can affect you and your students. This is never more true than it is today.’’
In conclusion I learned a lot about the things that go along with Mr. Romani’s tech Ed teacher job, such as stress, politics and positive impact that you could make on a student’s life. Finally thank you to Mr. Romani for taking his time to do this interview with me!
