Quarter 1 Reflection + CC

Tech initiatives and assignments

Throughout the past term I have been involved in Wave volunteering and in the Makerspace. About twice a week I help students at the Wave desk and any tasks Ms. Leung or Ms. Henderson have for me. I’ve also spent a few hours organizing the Cricut cart in the Makerspace after our T-shirt project because it got messed up. I had to re-learn how to use the Cricut because I hadn’t used it in months, but I caught on quickly since I knew how before. I learned how to use the Cricut iron for my tech team T-shirt and it was easy. When I was done my T-shirt I helped other students who didn’t know how to use the material/tools.

Core competency

Communication

I am able to politely communicate with others during meetings, assignments, tasks and conversation.  I can work on asking questions if I don’t remember/know how to do something. My goal is to experiment more with our projects and not be nervous about asking questions.

Tech Team Quarter 2 Reflection + Core Competency

This term some things I helped with were: volunteering twice a week at the Wave, making a whole bunch of Christmas hamper cards, and helping at our parent info night. I loved the info night! I got to talk to a bunch of families and answer their questions. It was really busy but we did great. 🙂 I was kind of nervous before we started, because I’ve never really done an event like this, but once we started and I saw how it went I was more comfortable and confidant. To make the Christmas cards, I went to the Makerspace for more than a week to get them done. I don’t remember exactly how many I made but I think it was 8 or something. There were a couple problems making them just because the cuts were so intricate they ripped sometimes. Together, we figured out the best ways to remove the cardstock without damaging the paper.

For my core competency, I’m going to focus on communication. My strength with this is simply just talking. I could talk all day if people let me, but I’ve really focused on speaking professionally when I need to. One thing I’ve gotten a lot better at is asking questions when I need help. That is still my goal though, because sometimes I still don’t want to ask for help. I need to work on that.

Tech Team | Intro to 3D Printing

(I unfortunately don’t have pictures because they were on my old phone and I wasn’t able to retrieve them!!)

For our Tinkercad assignment, me and my friend Riley decided to print ourselves personalized keychains. There wasn’t a pre-designed one we used on Tinkercad, but we used the things we’d learned to make the body of it, cut the circle for the chain, and add the text for our names! We each made one for ourselves, and we made one for our French teacher too (shout-out to Mme Lo!!). With each one we made them a bit different. There were things we changed like the size and the width because we didn’t like the thickness of the text the first time. And for the third one, we used a different shape for the body so that the corners were more rounded, less sharp. That was actually one of our challenges. We had to figure out which shape we could use to work best, since the corner rounding tool on the normal rectangle wasn’t really what we wanted. Overall I feel a lot more confidant with Tinkercad, downloading the designs and printing them!!

Tech Team Quarter 1 Reflection

This term I’ve learned how to confidently use more things in the Makerspace! My friends like Samhitha, Sonoma, Eric, ect, (thanks guys!) have patiently answered all my questions about the Cricut, the 3D printers, and anything else I’ve needed to know. Once I actually figured out how the Cricut works, I’ve been able to help a bunch of people with their projects before and after school.

Speaking of that, every Tuesday and Friday morning I sit at the Wave ready to help anybody who needs it. (I’m not very good at keeping track of it, oops. But Riley can vouch for me.)

I think one of my strengths is being able to talk to others! I don’t mind answering any questions that I can, and if I don’t know the answer I still try to help my asking someone else. I’ve helped people learn how to use the Cricut, where the things go and how to use things like the vinyl stickers.

One of my challenges was just trying to figure everything out, I felt kind of lost a few times because I was so scared that I would break something if I didn’t know how to use it! I’m much more confidant now, and I know if I need help I can always ask someone.

A goal I have is to actually keep track of when I’m at the Wave, I keep forgetting to write it down!! I also want to be more confidant with 3D printing. Practice makes progress, so I’ll work on it.

I don’t have any pictures for this one!! Oops!!
