Tech initiatives and assignments

Throughout the past term I have been involved in Wave volunteering and in the Makerspace. About twice a week I help students at the Wave desk and any tasks Ms. Leung or Ms. Henderson have for me. I’ve also spent a few hours organizing the Cricut cart in the Makerspace after our T-shirt project because it got messed up. I had to re-learn how to use the Cricut because I hadn’t used it in months, but I caught on quickly since I knew how before. I learned how to use the Cricut iron for my tech team T-shirt and it was easy. When I was done my T-shirt I helped other students who didn’t know how to use the material/tools.

Communication

I am able to politely communicate with others during meetings, assignments, tasks and conversation.  I can work on asking questions if I don’t remember/know how to do something. My goal is to experiment more with our projects and not be nervous about asking questions.

Strength and weakness reflection

1. Collaboration Reflection

Atomic theory unit

My strength was always checking in with the group members, because I understood most of our material, so I wanted to make sure everyone did.

My weakness was showing all the steps, sometimes we just talked about it instead of writing it down.

Bonding unit

My strength in the bonding unit was being open to new strategies for finding the answer we were looking for.

My weakness was letting the group advance while I still didn’t understand.

Mole unit

My strength was actively listening to the other group members so it could help me understand.

My weakness was needing others to take the lead because this unit was very confusing for me.

2. Lab skills reflection

Atomic theory unit

My strength in our atomic theory lab (noodlium) was making sure I took accurate measurements.

My weakness was understanding everything we had to do, some of the questions really confused me.

Bonding unit

My strength in our bonding worksheet lab was understanding most of the material.

My weakness was not finishing the whole sheet; I missed the last 3 questions.

Mole unit

We haven’t had a mole lab yet.

3. Personal Responsibility Reflection

Atomic theory unit

My strength was completing all the practice questions we were given.

My weakness was asking questions when I didn’t understand.

Bonding unit

My strength was understanding most of the material and doing most of the practice.

My weakness was not making great use of my class time and having to work more at home.

Mole unit

My strength has been asking questions when I need help.

My weakness has been working things out when they get difficult.

Write to explain your creative and critical thinking process as you worked to create your name using equations. Which equations did you use for each letter? How did you move them around and change their slant, height, length, position? Did you have any challenges? Any aha moments? Did you get help? What did this assignment help you understand about equations of linear relations? Be specific and use mathematical language.

When I started, I only made the very basic shape of my letters, but once I got the hang of it, I made them 3D. I used both slanted and vertical/horizontal lines, usually I used the equation y=mx+b and then added the domain and/or range to size the lines right. Since a bunch of the parts of the letters are parallel or perpendicular to each other, I would take lines that I already made and change the y-intercept or make the slope the negative reciprocal. (Especially on the 3D part, all those lines were parallel to something I already did.) My biggest challenge was trying to shade the letters. I couldn’t figure out how to do it exactly how I pictured in my head, and I ran out of time to do it all so I took out the few equations Ms. McArthur made with me. This project really really helped me visualize the linear math we’ve been learning and I thought it was really fun. I understand a lot more about domain and range now, and also how to make the different formulae we use.

Tech Team Quarter 2 Reflection + Core Competency

This term some things I helped with were: volunteering twice a week at the Wave, making a whole bunch of Christmas hamper cards, and helping at our parent info night. I loved the info night! I got to talk to a bunch of families and answer their questions. It was really busy but we did great. 🙂 I was kind of nervous before we started, because I’ve never really done an event like this, but once we started and I saw how it went I was more comfortable and confidant. To make the Christmas cards, I went to the Makerspace for more than a week to get them done. I don’t remember exactly how many I made but I think it was 8 or something. There were a couple problems making them just because the cuts were so intricate they ripped sometimes. Together, we figured out the best ways to remove the cardstock without damaging the paper.

For my core competency, I’m going to focus on communication. My strength with this is simply just talking. I could talk all day if people let me, but I’ve really focused on speaking professionally when I need to. One thing I’ve gotten a lot better at is asking questions when I need help. That is still my goal though, because sometimes I still don’t want to ask for help. I need to work on that.

 

Mon but dans le cours de FRAL10

Mon premier but pour ce cours est que je veux améliorer avec les quiz d’écoute. Parfois c’est difficile de répndre au questions et je veux pratiquer plsu. Je vais continuer d’écouter la radio française, et je vais aussi demander Mme Lo pour les pratiques suplémentaires. Je veux aussi améliorer mon lecture en français, alors je vais essayer de lire plus à haute vois pendant la classe, et je vais lire le livre “Zone” chez moi pour améliorer.
