During week 3 of Math 10 we have tested our knowledge from the subjects and terms from the last couple of weeks by partaking in a test, and then we began our new subject of trigonometry, studying the different triangles and their angles. I chose to do my Week 3 blog post about this specific subject because it has the newest terms and mathematics we have learned and I have always found interest in this subject during all years of doing math.
Here are the steps to further enhance your understanding:
First: You are going to want to understand Pythagorean theorem which shows that:
a squared + b squared = c squared
Second: You have to be naming the angles properly or your math will not apply properly:
H= Hypotenuse
O= Opposite side
A= Adjacent side
The hypotenuse will always be opposite from the 90 degree angle
The opposite side will always be opposite from the little Greek letter (theta)
The adjacent will always be the last to identify and that is how I usually figure it out although it is on the angle slope of the Greek letter (theta)
Lastly you will need to understand the three ways to evaluate these angles:
opp (opposite)
hyp (hypotenuse)
adj (adjacent)
Sine: opp over hyp
Cosine: adj over hyp
Tangent: opp over adj
Some may end in decimals and that is okay because most fractions do.
Later we will learn how to properly evaluate these equations and further our understanding.
Can’t wait!!
