1) What have you tried to do as an artist in this class.
I tried to open up myself to more mediums of drawing, and both digitally and on paper. But for the most part, it is a bold try for me for taking the art class. I tried the pencil drawings on paper first, and acrylics for the profile panting, followed with white-on-black using chinese markers which was pretty fun experience. During the time of quarantine, I tried to fineline my work using markers from the pencil drawings, and even though it seems simple, it is a new try for me already. Not mentioning using different mediums (wet acrylics) on iPad. This class has provided me a tons of new experiences, and I appreciate them. I will keep exploring in the field of art, for I find them fascinating and relaxing.
2) What is the meaning of visual art to you?
A way to relax, a way to express myself, a way to express my ideality. Since it is surreal, it could have infinite possibilities. It is a free, unlimited space that won’t be judged by grades, or marks. Everything is allowed, and anything is appreciated. It is a safe space, a private and cozy.
3) What do you feel is your responsibility as an artist?
“To express, to communicate.” It is a lyric in the song La Vie Boheme in RENT the musical. I thought of this when I saw the question, and I think the responsibility of bring an artist is at least, to free yourself, and possibly free others if it is possible. There are not much responsibilities, more of a need. When one is trying to be artist, they, or at least me, would want to express myself to others. Expressing oneself of their ideality to others is the responsibility of an artist.
4) What are your future plans as an artist?
Not for a main job or study, but definitely will be keep working on them in the future as a hobby for a long time.
Next Show as many examples of your finished art work as possible. Show any visual prepatory work you have done such as studies or thumbnails, etc. Show any passion projects you have done in your sketchbook or else where.
Add a final reflection:
1) Reflect on which assignments you found most successful and why?
The tarot card assignment! I liked my design, because I did a lot of thumbnails in advance, and searched a lot for the look of tarot cards. I liked the topic a lot, and it was really fun to draw them. The crayola colors that I used was suitable as well, so it was not that bad, I liked that piece.
2) Which assignment was least successful and why?
The tree assignment? I don’t really like the way I colored them, it was not professional art markers but crayolas, the colors were limited. And at the end I tried to paint the skin, but the color were too dark and the whole face went red, which was turned out kind of funny(…)I learnt the importance of mediums so it was a nice try.
3) Any final thoughts?
Not much, I enjoyed the course, and the artistic feel that went over the basic requirements this class has brought me, and allow me to have a chance to get to know about the art field.
