What Darwin Never Knew Blog Post

The discovery of DNA and its structure proved that Darwin’s theory of evolution was correct in several ways. First, DNA contains the genetic information that is passed on from parents to offspring, which is the mechanism by which inherited traits are transmitted from one generation to the next. This supports the idea of common ancestry, which is a fundamental tenet of Darwin’s theory of evolution.

Second, the structure of DNA allows for the possibility of mutations, which are changes to the genetic material that can lead to new and heritable traits. This is important because mutations are the source of genetic variation within a population, which is the raw material for natural selection to act on.

Third, the process of DNA replication is highly accurate, but not perfect, which means that errors can occasionally occur. These errors, or mutations, can then be passed on to subsequent generations, providing a potential mechanism for the gradual accumulation of genetic changes over time, which is another key aspect of Darwin’s theory.

Overall, the discovery of DNA provided strong scientific support for the key ideas of Darwin’s theory of evolution, including common ancestry, the role of mutations and genetic variation in the origin of new traits, and the gradual accumulation of genetic changes over time.

In terms of how the discovery of DNA has changed the way we view and study evolution, it has allowed us to study the genetic basis of evolution at a much finer level of detail than was previously possible. For example, we can now study the specific genetic changes that underlie the evolution of new traits, such as the development of antibiotic resistance in bacteria. We can also study the genetic relatedness of different species, which can help us to understand how they are related to one another and to trace the evolutionary history of different groups of organisms.

In the future, the study of DNA and the genetic basis of evolution is likely to continue to play a central role in our understanding of how life on Earth has evolved and changed over time. As our knowledge and technology continue to advance, we will likely be able to study the genetic basis of evolution in even greater detail, which will help us to better understand the mechanisms and processes that drive the evolution of life on our planet.

FN 10 Consumable Waste Assignment

The majority of foods come in packaging from fruit to snacks. Usually, you don’t buy unpackaged foods. Personally I don’t think I have ever seen any unpacked foods in my house and I think that’s what’s normal for most people. Food comes in lots of different package materials and most of the stuff that’s in my house are plastic, Styrofoam, glass, cardboard, cans, cartons, bags, but the most common one is probably plastic. I think certain food products come in certain packaging for a reason for instance eggs are put into either Styrofoam to protect the egg from breaking. Another instance can be a drink. Most of the time depending on the drink it is aluminum or metal cans. This keeps the drink inside and makes it easier to chill it and maintains the heat or cold to it. To give you an idea if were to buy eggs it would come in a cardboard or Styrofoam box/container. This would be a positive as it would be protecting the eggs and it would be easy for carrying and or transporting from the store to your house. A negative would be the amount of space it takes up in your fridge or garbage can. If you don’t have a separate container in your fridge for your eggs you would have ti out the entire box in there which takes a lot of space. And if you did have a separate container you have to put it in the trash once to put the eggs in a separate container. Then the garbage can would get filled faster unless you cut it up but thatas a big hassle. Once you put the package the food came in the trash you have to eventually put it in the bin outside. Once the day comes for the waste collection vehicle to pick up the garbage from the bin inside of the car then its usually taken to a land fill or factory to be brunt or turned into a soil. If the package is non compostable its put into a land for if it is it will be decomposed. Food waste is usually broken down in a process were they let the bacteria break it down. 3 suggestions to decrease the amount of food we waste is 1 always bring reusable bags to the grocery to avoid getting more and more plastic bags. 2 start composting. 3 recycle

Element information fluency

ZIRCONIUM

Some question i had to search for this project were;

What is my elements color

Common uses for my element

Information about zirconium in the periodic table

Some digital tools i used for this assignment were; citation machine, power point, and google to find information

the process i used was a very common one which is going over each question and getting the most information about it, then i would structure it into sentences and paragraphs

one way i used to find in the information was valid was going to multiple verified websites and seeing if they had the same or similar information about the topic

This project was pretty easy as it was thoroughly  explained and had a lot of time to do it. where i could’ve done better was probably choosing a element, my element had some information but most of it i had to do aa lot of digging to find
