Week7-Precalc11

This week we learned about the usage of the discriminant of the quadratic formula, it can check the nature of the roots, and we can tell whether the roots are rational or not through its value, it’s very useful for solving the quadratic equations. For example, if there’s an equation like that: 5x^2+2x+1=0, a=5,b=2,c=1, we can use the discriminant b^2-4ac to see if there are any real roots for this one, so we put those numbers into the formula, we get: 2^2-4×5=-16, and it’s smaller than zero, which means that there’re no real roots for this one so we don’t have to think about how to solve it, that can actually save a lot of time for us during the test.
I think I did pretty well in this chapter, I learned it in Chinese before, then I learned it in English again, the only thing I have to do was interpret those math languages into Chinese and try to think in English way. I forced myself to speak more to help my classmates, that way I can practice my English and make my mind get used to it, I’m trying preparing for learning more new things in the future in English way. And that’s what I figured out this week. I think it’s never too much to speak English.
