Week 3-Absolute Value of A Real Number

Absolute Value shows how far is a number away from ‘0(zero)’.

The absolute value of a real number is defined as the principle square root of the square of number.

Principle Square Root:

The non-negative square root of a non-negative real number, a , is called the principle square root of a and is written √a.

Absolute Value:

1.Write the absolute value of each number.

a) 14

|14|=14

absolute value:14

b)-7.5

|-7.5|=7.5

absolute value:7.5

2.Evaluate |3-5|

|3-5|

=|-2|

=2
