learning is embedded in memory, history, and story.

 

I chose this sentence to reflect on because I agree with it. I say that because it is true a lot of the learning that happens around the world is usually a memory that has happened in the past that people still talk about to this day and teach others about it. Or it also could be through a historical event that people could still learn about like what they do in schools. During my school years, most of the things that I learned is usually through history in the past. Learning could also be done through a story, back in middle school my English teacher and social studies used to teach me most of the things a learned through a story. They would either give me a book to read or a short story so that I could understand what is the lesson that they are trying to teach me. After doing that me and my classmates would write a reflection and test on the story we read. 

 

What is good listening? Did you see it today? What did it look like? Or not look like? How can you become a better listener? 

 

 

Good listening to me is a person or a group of people who focus on a person when they are speaking and give them room to speak without any interruption. While the speaker was talking, I did see many good listeners in my class. I was surprised and happy at the same time because I was not expecting that from a grade 12 class.  During the circle that I had with my classmates, I noticed that every single one of them was being respectful and focused on the person that had the talking stick. I also noticed that this was one of the first ever classes that I had where the teacher did not stop the speaker to ask other students to stop talking while the speaker was talking. To become a good listener, you must maintain your focus on the speaker while they are talking. You would also have to pay close attention to what the speaker is saying because at some point while they’re talking they could say something important that you might miss.

original question:

would different materials I use as a parachute from my Experiment reduce the time of my egg hitting the ground?

answer: yes, different materials could reduce the time of an egg hitting the ground. but some materials could have the same or a slightly different times then on another.

 

If I had to redo my experiment I would use different materials not because the first two that I used weren’t good but instead I want to see if different materials that use could have a different conclusions.

 

If a scientist with an unlimited budget to do my experiment I would suggest that they would rent out a room with no high wind blowing towards it and possibly use better materials then the ones I used.

 

This experiment turned out just how i wanted it to. I did not have any major challenges to complete except when i broke the egg on my brothers face at the start. I do not think this experiment could be used in real life or be useful. but it could be a fun challenge to do in your free time.

Evaluating

One problem that I encountered during my experiment was making both diagrams for my labs.

If I had to change something about this experiment that I did, it would be changing the egg for something else because it was very tricky doing this experiment with an egg.

after doing my experiment and collecting all my data, it does seem reasonable. it had everything that I have expected and nothing surprised me from it.

Both of the Experiments will have two different air time due to the different materials I will be using.

1: how much force do I need to kick a soccer ball from half of the field to the goal without it touching the ground.

This experiment would be very tricky because I would probably need to do it over and over again so I could get the perfect shot at the net and the Perfect force and power that I kick the ball with so it can reach and go into the soccer net without it touching the ground.

2: how much force do I need to use to push a car.

For this idea i would have to pass on it because while I was thinking about it I thought it would be a fun idea to do. But then I realized it would be a little dangerous to be using a specific force to push a car to get it moving would be very risky of me getting hurt.

3: egg parachute

For this project I was going through all the ideas I have thought and have decided to chose the egg parachute experiment because it was the one that I found to be less challenging more fun and interesting then my other ideas I wrote down. I also wanted to do this experiment because I feel like different material that I use for a parachute could have a different time of hitting the ground depending on the type of material I use for each experiment.

4: elevator weight

for the elevator idea, i decided to pass on it because I wanted to do an experiment that was a little interesting and fun to do instead of just putting a weight scale and seeing my weight drop or go up.

 

 

 

general form, slope y intercept, point slope,

general form:

if you ever get  a general form equation, you need to know that it tells you nothing about the equation and it is  pretty useless. general form will always have a zero at the end of the equation and the number at the start of the equation will always be positive if the number is not positive that means the equation is written in a wrong way. you also cant have any fractions in a general form equation. and example of a right general form equation is 5x-y+6=0, this equation is right because the first number is positive and there are no fractions seen in the equation and it all equals zero. a wrong general form equation would be  -8x+y-6/7=0, this is a wrong equation because the first number is a negative exponent and there is also a fraction in the equation.

point slope:
the equation point slop represents  the formula m(x,x) =y-y, you can use this type of formula when you are given two numbers and you need to put them into an equation, if you have the numbers (4,6) and (5,4) the equation would turn into 4(x-6)= y-6. the equations turned into this because we have the slope which is 4 because of the difference in the numbers and the slope will be IN front of the brackets, then you have to insert the x and the y numbers into the equation making it a -4 and – 6.

slope y intercept:

the equation slope y intercept is the y=mx+b equation. it tells you  both the slope and the y intercept. the mx part is the slope and the b is the y intercept, that means the you can graph a line on graphing paper using that formula.

Self-Reflection

 

This class has helped me a lot with my mathematics skills and it also helped me grow and learn new skills and units that I did not know of last year. This class made me make new friends and made me talk to new people so they could help me if I am stuck on anything or I could help them if they needed my help from time to time. I am looking forward for next year to experience the same things that I experienced in math 10 but even better. I am looking forward to meeting new people and learning more mathematical skills that I could use in the future.

 

 

 

This class showed that math is not just fun and games it is a subject that is very important in the future and that I will be using it later in life. This class make work showed me that math is not as easy as you think, you need to work hard in this class and need to ask questions if you are stuck on something. It showed me that you can’t memorize math in your head or do equations in your head, you need to understand the formulas that you learn every day, and to practice for a test you need to write lots of notes so you can look back to what you did already
