Math 10 Honors Numbers Summary

The first unit of Math 10 Honors, I learned about the Number system, and radicals.

We practiced on indicating sets which each number belongs to. The poster of the real number system and coming up with a fun way to put it was new. New methods of finding the Lowest Common Multiple and the Greatest Common Factor, by using factor trees. I learned about square roots and real number systems in grade 9, but the lessons in grade 10 goes into more details of these lessons.

Radicals include index, the small number close to the radical sign, such as And the number under the radical sign is called the Radicand. In the example, the radicand is x. Radicals included new lessons, such as converting repeating decimals to fractions, using algebraic procedure. Evaluating cube roots and fourth roots. And estimating square roots of large numbers by dividing the number into groups of 2 digits starting from the decimal point. Also using the Pythagoras theorem with radicals to find the length of sides of a triangle.

Something new also included mixed radicals, and converting from entire radicals to mixed radicals or the other way around. Converting radicals to the simplest form by factoring the radicals into perfect squares. With converting entire radicals to mixed radicals with an index of 3 requires to factor out the prefect cube from the radical.

I want to remember the names of the radicals, like index and radicands. And the mixed radicals and entire radicals and converting entire radicals to mixed radicals. I think they may be helpful in the future. The real number system will always be helpful as well.
