These are the three things I will do at work to stay safe:
1: I will ask questions consistently, especially when I am uncertain of something or don’t know how to operate a piece of machinery.
2: I will question my employer when I feel that something doesn’t feel safe, and have them give me reassurance if it’s safe or not. If I still feel its unsafe, I will refuse to do the task.
3: I will make sure to follow instructions and do things according to the procedure, if something unclear, I’ll ask for more clarification and even a demonstration if needed. I won’t take shortcuts and make sure to do things properly in order to stay safe.
These are things I will do to make sure others around me are safe:
1: Whenever someone is trying to take shortcuts, give them a warning so that they won’t put themselves in an unsafe position.
2: Make sure fellow workers are informed on what they should be doing and how they should do it if they look unsure of something.
I think the story that stuck with me the most is Johns story and the forklift. Such a devastating incident could’ve been so avoidable if he had followed procedure and turned off the forklift. That’s what inspired most of my answers.
