Career Paths:
1. Financial analyst
A financial analyst is one of the most rigorous and coveted careers in finance. They primarily try to predict the outcome in a business decision such as a merger or predicting the market. In order to make financial models and predictions, financial analysts need to research macroeconomics and macroeconomics and mostly advise companies on good business decisions to make.
A regular day as a financial analyst depends on your seniority and expertise. The more junior financial analysts spends time gathering data, updating spreadsheets and financial models, and studying for exams to get licences. A more senior financial analyst develops contacts in the industry, uses data to make an investment strategy, and advises their company.
To become a financial analyst you don’t need to have a degree like in medicine and law. Today, with the amount of competition there is in this job market, you’re probably not going to get any type of job without a degree in economics, finance, statistics, or business.
This career connects with my personal strengths, skills, preferences, and interests. This job requires a lot of critical thinking by going through data to make financial models and predictions, you also need to be able to communicate effectively with your company.
2. Computer hardware engineer
A computer hardware engineer can design and test new computer hardware or can design devices that aren’t computers but incorporate computer hardware. Computer hardware engineers make sure hardware can work with software and sometimes need to work with software developers. You’ll need to make sure the computer hardware you design will work.
A computer hardware engineer builds and tests prototypes of new hardware. You’ll be using computer simulation software on a daily basis to test different designs. You will have to continually update your knowledge to try and keep up with advancements in hardware.
To get a job as a computer hardware engineer you will need a degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science.
My skills, strengths and interests that connect with this job. One of my biggest interests is computers and how they work, this job would allow me to create computers which is an awesome thing to do. I would also need a lot of creative thinking to develop designs and also a lot of critical thinking to reflect on what went wrong with designs and how to fix them.
