Core competencie math 9

This project shows my growth in my communication skills because I was able to successfully explain a equation and hopefully let the viewers understand the concept. While doing this project I had to think of an equation I could do that was easy enough for the viewer and for myself to understand and of course I had to answer the question and correctly explain it. And I had to present it by posting on my Edu blog so this shows my growth in the social category for being able and willing to post on my blog

A Fresh Look at the Periodic Table

Tryston Hickson                                       RE-make The Periodic Table C.O. L                                                2020-02-27

Define/discover:

Our problem is we have to re make the periodic table

How’s: How can we include the lanthanides and actinides with keeping the table organized. How can we make it easier for people to remember all of the elements? How can we change this? How can we completely re due this table and make it better than the previous table?

Ideas: We could order the table by

  • Atomic number
  • Elements
  • Weight
  • Importance

We could change the shape of the table, we could make the table bigger or smaller, we could go by the weight of the certain elements

Dream: Our plan is to make a circle organizing by its atomic number while keeping them with there families and groups. Maybe to make it easier to find some elements you could put your finger in the middle and spin it until you see it.

Design/Deliver:

We are going to make the periodic table a circle an have it sorted by there state and their atomic weight/number therefore making the inner elements the lighter elements on our table, and the outer elements have a higher density or a higher atomic number then the inner elements. We feel that the original periodic table is not engaging enough therefore making the circle more engaging.

Legend:

Akali metals: Blue

Alkaline: Green

Halogens: red

Noble gases: orange

Transition metals: purple

Solids: Square

Liquid: squiggly line

Gas: Star

Debrief: In the end I am not sure how we could alter our table and make it more efficient. With our table it is well organized and engaging and looks very bright and colourful. Our table was very well done (my opinion).

West Vancouver Fire Department

2020-02-06                                                                 C.O. L Interview                                                  Tryston Hickson_9

Ron sharnald WVFD Captain (West Vancouver Fire Fighter)

Interviewer:

Tryston Hickson Grade 9 student

Attending Riverside Secondary

Reporter: Mr. Sharnald, I am very thankful for you to take your time out of your day to answer some questions I will be asking

Mr. Sharnald: O no problem any time!

Reporter: thank you. Ok to start off I just want to ask why are you so passionate about your career in fire fighting?

Mr. Sharnald: I love helping people. That’s why I wanted to become a firefighter when I was younger, also to be able to help the community I work for.

Reporter: Ok and what are some obstacles you have had to overcome to get to where you are today?

Mr. Sharnald: I have had to overcome many circumstances. Between the training and studying required to become a firefighter, overcoming injuries and recovering so I can go back to work and just the traumatic things I see from time to time stick in my head and trust me they aren’t good memories that’s for sure

Reporter: I’m sure you speak for all fire fighters when you say that. Do u have any advice to pass on to the several children or other people thinking about becoming a firefighter?

Mr. Sharnald: Its an amazing job. You get to meet so many new people, help people with any emergencies or be there in need for assistance and the money isn’t bad either. But keep in mind not everything about this job is ideal as it seems. You must be mentally strong and if you aren’t don’t even try to become a firefighter. You must sacrifice a lot but, in the end, its totally worth it

Reporter: Wow that’s great to hear. Well I am probably not the only one wanting answers to our many questions so you think there is any way any riverside students could contact you?

Mr. Sharnald: You can look for Tryston around the school and talk to him.

Reporter: Yes, and what is your favourite part about your career besides helping and assisting people emergencies?

Mr. Sharnald: Going to the hall with my crew and my friends and hanging around their usually playing pool or ping pong or even going to the gym and getting stronger

Reporter: ok last question. How many Years have you been on the job?

Mr. Sharnald: I have been on the job since 1999 so 21 years exactly.

Reporter: Ok thank you for your time and keep up the good work and thank you for doing you job to the best

Mr. Sharnald: No, thank you!

I chose to interview mr sharnald because what he does has an impact on people and what he does really amazes me the fact that he puts his life on the line for people he doesn’t even know is inspiring. I learned that to become a firefighter takes lot of work and sacrifices and a strong mental fortitude and I would love to become a firefighter so I could help people and that’s one of the most satisfying feelings, to help someone in need. This interview really opened my eyes. Firefighters do so much more then fight fires. I would very much like to become a firefighter when I grow upSee the source imageSee the source image

The project above is a perfect example of my strengths and how I’ve grown and devolved in my writing. I also had to use many techniques and skills such as: critical and creative thinking. Here’s how I used each method

Creative: This whole project required critical thinking. It required you to create a news report on a book of your choice. Not only did you have to create a title you had to make up interviews, where the setting was taken place, personal information was made up and so much more. This project was a challenge and I really had to critically think because as I said before, the whole project required to think outside the box and make some stuff up.

Critical: For my news report I had to look and search for quotes and important points in the book so I could use all of that information in one big project.  I had to chose pictures to use for my news report, I had to manage my time because I had a due date. All of these points I had to think it through and figure stuff out in my own therefore one of my methods I used to create my project was critically thinking

This project was a challenge for me and in the end I came out on top. I overcame the bumps I had to go over and I finished the project on time and well done. This project has taught me how to use my time wisely and make sure I stay on task. I’v also grown being able to freestyle and chose and figure out what I would like to do for a project and not only that but now I am able to put facts and information from a book or an online website and turn it into my own words and create a project out of the information I found out and combine it with my creativity and make a project.
