The Vulnerable Ones
Defining Poverty
- The situation of poverty may vary depends on the region and the countries, the poor people in Developed countried may have no problem living in delveoping countries for same income. No matter where the poor people are, the poverty is really about wheather they can meet their need for the neccessities. But somehow this is not applied for those thrid world’s countries, the people their can’t even get supply by themselves, or there is even no way for them to earn money. So the abosolute poverty would be suitable to describe this situation, but it’s not really enough.
- In my opinion, for the developed couontries like Canada, the relative poverty would be best way to measure the poverty. When it comes to the developing countries, realtive poverty will still be suitable to measure poverty. For those least developing countries, abosolute poverty would be the way to measure the poverty, as the people in those countried don’t have a lot of incomes.
China’s One Child Policy
- As far as I know, it have good influences on controlling the population, because my grandmother have 5 children and when it comes to my generation, I became the only child in my family. It definitely decrease the population in both Urban area and Rural area in where I lived as most of my friends are the only child in their family, no matter where there family is.
2. I think it’s fair for citizen’s right, because consider the situation of China, there need to be some policies like this to control the population, also, in China’s basic constitutional law, nothing was mentioned about the right for citizen giving birth, so in terms of law, there is nothing to protect citizens’ right in this situation.
3. I think this policy causes more good, it could make government realize they need to have a better education and better quality of life to make it possible to have fewer worker support more aging groups.
Afetr reading debate
- I still think “One child policy” is necessary, the biggest problems in this case is not in the Urban, but in the rural area, because of some historical problems, the people there was not, or not even been educated, they would only think “the more, the better”, in fact, there are 900 millions people is register as rural and about 650 millions of them are living in the countryside, then the problems come obviously, it’s hard for us to change the concept those people have, but have to set a policy for that to improve the situation.
2. Gnerally in wolrd, have right to failmy is been reconige by most part of the world, but with such a long time of “one child policy”, only a little have the concept of “human have right to giving birth”, so none of them was complain about giving more birth.
3. I still think the “One child policy” have bring more benifits right now as China start foucs on the qulity of the education and aim to provide a better changce to get higer income job,
Population Distribution
Pessimists/Malthusians: people who worrying about the population growing could bring problems to the world like outstrip
food supply, leading to famine, disease, and social disorder.
Neo Malthusians: Those people are the thinker that think disease will take over the developing countries in next 50 years by increasing global warming, shortages of arable land, conflicts
over fresh water, declining fish stocks, and the spread of
AIDS or other diseases.
Optimists/cornucopians: Those are the people think that with the development of solar and wind energy, the earth’s carrying capacity would increasing so they have a optimist idea about population growing.
Unreported World: Kenya’s Human Time Bomb: This video fit into the Pessimists/Malthusians category, one time the local people in Kenya talked about the lack of land and resources cause the war in Kenya, the 18 – 35 years old age group don’t satisfied with what they get right now, instead, they ask for more resources but they can’t get that, so they start the war for resources.
Hans Rosling’s TED Talk: Global population growth, box by box: This video fit into Optimists/cornucopians category. Hans Rosling’s ideas are all base on when poorest group of people get enough things they ask for, the population growth will comes to a stop or even decrease, tho, he thinks the west world will still be a lead position with the improvement of the quality of the life for those poorest population groups.
Population Pyramids for China
So, this population chart and population pyramid is for China. As we can see from the population pyramid, the birth rates of China have a slightly increase recently, while the death rates have a mineral decline. With the comparison of both sides of the population pyramid, the numbers of female and male are mostly balanced in all the age groups. Also, there is a large amount of population in the suitable workers’ age group. Accordingly, China now is on the stage 4, with two convex sides on the population pyramid, it’s a contracting population pyramid, where peoples have longer life expectancy with low birth rate and low death rate.
Currently, the family planning for China is known as “one child policy”, but now they just carried out a new “Second child “policy, which allows the family with both parents are the only child in their own family, able to have the second child. Which make sense to increase the birth rates and have the birth rate slightly increase instead of a huge jump to a extreme rate. Also, China need to focus more on the construction of the facility for the heal care as more people are turning older, there is a growing possibility of people get serious illness that need the beds in the health care facilities. Also, China need to be aware of the incoming middle age population, creating more job chance for these population and make the relevant public business focus on those peoples.

Canada and BC’s population changes
Questions:
- The population of both BC and Canada are increasing over times.
- The births rate and the death rates are both slightly increasing of Canada and BC’s.
- The natural increase for both Canada and BC are slightly decrease over time.
- The birth rate of BC, because baby cloth was sold to all the baby so the births rate matter.
- Milk powder for babies, hospital, all the production about babies as is related to the births rate. Crematorium, all the things about dead people would be relative to the death rates.
- If I am a politician, I will give the female who give birth to more babies, can get money from government as the reward to have more babies. From the chart, we can have a better understanding of the overall population growth and the natural increase of Canada and BC, with those information, we can make better decision to the policies.

Provincial and Municipal Governments
- Education: The government are responsible for creating a system that can give Canadian basic skills required as democracy. However, the cost of education are increasing as our expectation growing, government need to use the money more effectively.
- Environment: Government are responsible for creating law and rules about how the resources are been used. Government need to find a balance between present and future in terms of the natural resources are not been over used.
- Health care and social welfare: There is sharing responsibility between provincial government and federal government for help care, current situation is that Canadian have more population over fifty then twenty, so health care and welfare would be important, though, some patient can get health care immediately, some of them even go to use to pay for the better health service.
- Transportation: Government need to find of the deal of the transportation with the growing population of Canada.
- Negotiation with federal government: Provincial government and federal government are working together to make all the Canadian have fair life. Whenever there comes a problem with something, provincial government is responsible for communicating with the federal government to get the budget etc.
