Quote 1:

“I want to tell the people of the United States, that as far as begging for fugitives is concerned, that we are amply able to take care of ourselves: we have done it, and can do it.”

I think that this quote is telling us that know matter what the government is forcing them to do they can beat it and they can take care of themselves when they get to freedom.

Quote 2:

“We have a society here to take care of our brothers when they get here, and we can do it without assistance.”

I think that is quote is saying that when they finally get to Canada or a safe place there are people there to help them get back on to there feet. But, they wanna show them that they can do it without any help
