Political Cartoon

Description-

So for my project I decided to make a “Monopoly” board. I drew all the major events in the order that they happened. While I was drawing I tried to show everything in symbols instead of just drawing exactly what the event was.

For my project, I made a “monopoly” board. So the first square is two beavers, the two beavers are symbolizing the HBC company. I chose the beavers to symbolize this because the HBC was a fur trading company and they used beavers fur a lot. The next square is two men fighting and I chose to use this for how the HBC and the NWC were always fighting over land, the NWC had Rupert’s land but the HBC wanted it. The third square is a drawing of a Metis. The square after the Metis is a gun, I chose to draw a gun for the battle of seven oaks because that’s what they used in a battle. I felt like using the gun to symbolize that it would help represent the battle. The fifth square is a drawing of a sold sign and a money-sack. I chose to draw these for the purchase of Rupert’s land. The reason I chose to draw these was because I though it would help show what you are trying to say. The next drawing is the “Bill of Rights”, I chose to draw a poster showing and saying the bill of rights. The next picture is a school; I drew the school to represent the residential schools that the Metis were forced to go to.  After that There is the drawing of the scroll that says “treaty” I decided to draw the scroll to show the treaty because that’s what they used to look like. That’s also what they would look like when people had to sign them so I thought that it would be a good symbol for the Treaty. The following picture is two NWMP, I drew two NWMP beside each other to show how they were trying to stop the Americans from trading with the Aboriginal’s. The picture with the two men is showing the pacific scandal and how Hugh Alan gave John A. Macdonald money to win the election in return McDonald had to finish the CPR. And the final picture is showing the National Policy I drew a money bag and a train. The reason I drew those was because the National Policy was when Hugh Alan gave John A. Macdonald money to return for the election. But in return he had to finish the CPR and let more immigrants in.

Interpret-

I believe that the Metis and aboriginals were treated horribly. I think that it was good that they did travel west, but I also think that it wasn’t fair how they did it. The aboriginals and Metis were treated horrible just because we wanted more land.
