This week we started the 6th unit of our Math 10 year called the Functions Unit. We started finding examples of what a function is, and the definition of a function.
What is a function?
A function is a special relations where each input only has 1 output, whereas a relation is when each input can have more than 1 option for an output. The term, ‘relations’, can describe a multiple amount of things which is why it is in the biggest circle, but the term ‘functions’, is used to describe a more particular amount of things, which is why it is in the smallest circle.
What does a function look like? Here is what a function looks like.
What does a non-function/relation look like? This is what it looks like. Since the input can have multiple options, it is not a function, and instead it is just a relation.
