Where-Philippines
When-December 27, 2011
This image shows a newlywed couple displaying their rings during their wedding rites as they stand in front of what used to be a church in a village that was destroyed by floods. The city is Iligan City in Mindanao, in the southern part of the Philippines. Over 1453 people died from floods in the south due to the heavy rain that triggered the flooding on the eastern coast. The reason I chose this picture is because of two different things. Even though something terrible had happened to their city, they still were able to celebrate. However, this image also shows how used to floods and typhoons people in Southern Asia are, and that the rising amount of occurrences of these has to be a warning to people.
With information from the World Bank website, I was able to create these graphs to compare my findings and reach an end observation. In this chart of the Philippines, which is a tropical climate, below, you can see that the average rainfall since 1901-2016 has increased a fair bit. The temperature has remained close to the same, while the rainfall amount has increased.
In another chart of Greenland, which has a polar climate, you can see that the temperature has risen by an average of 2 degrees Celsius. While 2 degrees might not be a drastic change, over the next decade one can assume that the temperature will continue to rise. The precipitation has drastically increased, which can be linked back to the warming environment, and is one of the reasons for flooding in countries.
Another source, PAGASA, (Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Association), link flooding to overflowing of lakes and rivers, and can also relate it to the uncontrollable release of impounded water in reservoirs and by the accumulation of excessive runoff water from mountains. The reason there is an abundance of water is because the colder climates are warming up and the melting glaciers are releasing tons of water. The website also goes on to elaborate about the restoration process. It states that emotional and social trauma inflicted on people from the flood has a short term effect of inhibiting the community’s drive to repair the damage done.
Observations
Date-December 18 2019
Air Pressure-100mb
Air temperature-7 degrees
Wind direction-south east
Wind speed-2 knots-calm winds
Precipitation-drizzle
Dew point- -5
Cloud type-Nimbostratus
Cloud cover-Full

Observations
My predictions for tomorrow is that the drizzle rain will continue overnight, and the cloud cover will remain full and be nimbostratus clouds again. I predict that the air pressure will rise just a little bit compared to what it has done for the past week.
Map 1 (Above)-Here you can see there is lot of low pressure circling around the province. This means that the air pressure will be similar to what has been happening, There will be lots of precipitation and clouds forming.
Map 2 (Above)-Here you can see there is just a little bit of low pressure circling around our area, so there will be small breaks in between the cycles of rainfall.
Map 3 (Above)-Here there is not really any low or high pressure zones near us at the moment, so the weather will just be cloudy and overcast for the most part. There is a good chance of it staying grey, but there is a lower chance of any rain occurring.
Map 4 (Above)-Here there is more low pressure so there is a fair bit of rain that is heading towards us, so this will be after the pause or break in rainfall. The rain will restart after a couple hours of no rain. Overall, the trend for the past week is that the air pressure has been similar, and there has been very similar weather patterns in regards to the rain and the temperature.

Observations
My predictions for tomorrow is that it will follow the weather pattern for the next few days and maybe change on the weekend. I predict that the air pressure will be the same.
Map 1 (Above)-This is a warm front so the weather and air will be wet and somewhat warm
Map 2 (Above)-This is another warm front so the weather will be more warm but still possibilities of lots of rain
Map 3 (Above)-This is an occluded and a warm front, so the weather will be very different and there is mostly low pressure.
Map 4 (Above)-This is a mixture of a cold front and warm front, so it is occluded. The weather will be staying the same for the most part.

Observations
My predictions for tomorrow is that the weather will be very similar to today and also, the air pressure will be almost the same.
Map 1 (above)-There is a combination of high and low fronts so it is an occluded front
Map 2 (Above)-There is mostly high fronts near our area
Map 3 (above)-There is lots of high pressure fronts around our general area
Map 4 (above)-There is both high and low pressure so it is an occluded front

Observations
My predictions for tomorrow is that it will have moderate rainfall again, cloudy, calm winds and cooler temperature. I predict that the air pressure will be a bit higher tomorrow.
Map 1 (above)-There are warm winds headed towards us so there will be a warm front approaching
Map 2 (above)-There is a mix of the warm and cool winds so there will be a mix of weather and it will be occluded.
Map 3 (above)-There is mostly low pressure so there will be a cold front approaching.
Map 4 (above)-There is both high and low pressure, which means it is an occluded front.
Observations
Date-December 12, 2019
Air pressure-100 mb
Air temperature-7 degrees
Wind direction-south east
Wind speed-2 knots-calm winds
Precipitation-Moderate rain
Dew point- -2 degrees
Cloud type-Nimbostratus
Cloud cover-full

Observations
My predictions for tomorrow is that it will have moderate rain, calm wind speeds and around the same air pressure.
Map 1 (above)-a mix of cold and warm front
Map 2 (above)-mainly cold front coming towards BC
Map 3 (above)-mix of cold and warm front
Map 4 (above)-mix of cold and warm front
In all these, we can see that the high pressure and low places stay relatively the same, which means there are more chances that the rain will continue through the day, and possibly continue during the night and into the next day.
I chose the Atlantic Salmon to base this assignment off of.
The kinds of Atlantic Salmon you should consume mainly come from open net farms in Norway, mainly farms in Kvaroy and Selloyvik. There are recommended Atlantic Salmon found over the world that are farmed in Recirculating Aquaculture System facilities. These facilities are more sustainable than open net pens, and have a healthier environment for the fish to grow up and mature in, while having the minimal amount of risk for developing infections and diseases.
However, the kinds of Atlantic Salmon that you should avoid are mainly found in British Columbia, some places in Norway, Scotland, and Chile. This is because the fish are raised in open net pens, which are known to have fish lice, multiple infections floating around, and they also have the possibility of polluting or tainting the water around the pens. With these pens, the fish inside have received vaccines that affect the fish that live in the outside water in that the outside fish develop illnesses that are harboured by the inside fish. The inside fish are immune so it does not affect them, but it is released into the water that the outside fish live in and it hurts their health.
The 2 main types of how these fish are farmed are open net fish farms and RAS (recirculating aquaculture systems).

For the positive message, I chose to do a clip from the movie Happy Feet 2. This movie is one that many kids watched when they were little, and the second one focuses around environmental impacts. The penguins start to have trouble finding food because the ice melts and the fish population decreases. The penguin population gets trapped in their valley, and have no way to find fish. The way they overcame this was joining with the elephant seals and finding a way out. This can be applied as well in real life, if we all pitch in and do small things to help the environment like recycle and dispose of things properly, some day, hopefully soon, we will be able to make a very impactful change.
For the negative message, I chose the Lorax because it is a bleak film that shows us what really could happen in the future if we don’t change our path. In the movie, the mayor of the town is a greedy person who is the manager of a company that sells bottled oxygen to its residents. The town is completely artificial and has no nature in it because the mayor realizes trees supply oxygen for free, which is not to his benefit. This all started over finding materials from trees, and so, a business is produced and the deforestation spiralled into a mass overproduction of materials. Eventually, the environment gets polluted and when all the trees are gone, they find other methods of creating money. This message could be interpreted in many ways, but it also gives off a sense of hopelessness that no matter what we do, our future will look this like and it might be impossible to change our path. This movie can give off a pessimistic and negative emotion. The end of the movie however, gives off an optimistic and positive mood, showing that we can truly change the path our world is set on.
