- The problem of this experiment is that my group and I need to construct a boat to hold a penny when placed in water. This boat needs to be made of tin foil, wooden stir sticks, straws and tape.
- If we make the boat with sides and the wooden stir sticks in the middle then the this structure should provide quite a bit of support because of the sides preventing the water from spilling in and the wooden stir sticks in the middle preventing the boat from sagging right away with the weight of the pennies.
- During our experiment our boat held 34 pennies
- While designing our boat we thought almost raft like and then altered it a little bit. We first thought to put the wooden stir sticks across the bottom on top of the tin foil. This I think gave the boat the most structure because it prevented the boat form sagging whereas some boats did not have that support and their boat sank quicker.
- If I could change this boat a bit I would build up the sides more because in my opinion that was what got us in the end.
