Praise Song for the Day
“Doing their tasks and accepting the fact that they had to do things that they wanted to do, and they are clinging to the idea that hope is coming in the future. The hope is that Obama will help build that bridge to a better future.”
Praise Song for the Day by Elizabeth Alexander, is an ode about Barack Obama’s Presidential inauguration. This ode stresses the hope Obama has brought to citizens around the nation. “I know there’s something better down the road. We need to find a place that is safe.” (Line 22-23) refers to the Americans, (Immigrants) who left their homelands, in search for a better life for their family. “Praise song for the struggle, praise song for the day” (line 31) This line correlates to African slavery age and people who died for this day (inauguration.) Finally, Elizabeth Alexander wraps up the poem “praise song for walking forward in that light.” (Line 43) making reference to the theme of the poem, Obama’s inauguration. This closing line shows that there is hope for America.
A World Without Technology: A World Without Growth
Many people may view technology negatively, especially older generations who are not quite as informed on the benefits and its proper use. A lot of people think of technology for its shallow purpose of social media. It may be falsely viewed it as a distraction but this is simply the product of misuse. When used correctly, technology can improve all fields of work, research, communication and even making our day to day lives easier. Technology can be used as a tool to improve knowledge, access to deeper connections and resources. Although overlooked, when we think about the effect it has on our day to day lives, a world without technology would be a much less effective, sufficient world. Many people say technology is causing more harm than good. They say problems such as bullying, global warming and addiction are a result of technology. Although misuse can cause these problems, technology can be used to improve and fix these problems. Bullying exist everywhere, online and in person but, many advertisements and posts online are used to spread anti-bullying messages. Inventions such as solar power and electric cars are made in an effort to save the environment. When used correctly, social media can be a tool for communication and connections.
