Sam the Athlete Persuasive Paragraph

Sam the Liar
Sophia Wong
How would you feel if your teammate was being dishonest towards you? “Sam the Athlete” by Stuart Mclean Is a book about Sam, a boy who was constantly getting teased by the boys about not being great at sports until he stumbled into the field hockey’s co-ed team. The coach assumed that Sam was actually a girl names Samantha. Sam was being praised by the coach, something that rarely happened to him so, he decided to pretend he was a girl and play for the team. Sam did not have the right to play as a girl because even if he told everyone on the team that he was actually a boy, he still would have been able to play on the team. The main reason why Sam should have played as a boy is that he should be honest toward his teammates so that his teammates can trust him. It was not necessarily the skirt that made him happy, it was his teammates, the coach and the atmosphere that made him happy. “Nice work, Samantha, said the coach.” Page 68. The coach would not have been rude to Sam if he were to tell her that he was actually a guy. The girls and coach would not have treated him differently if he were to tell them the truth and they would appreciate him being honest. In conclusion, since Sam still would have been able to play on the team, he should have just corrected the coach and worn shorts.
