Manchester Arena: 2 rules to sort truth from fiction in an attack’s confusing aftermath

After reading through this article I feel extremely suspicious of my surroundings. It is hard because it would be a lot easier to believe whatever people post online but after reading this I am especially suspicious of the things I see online. The problem is people know how to manipulate others. Taking advantage of something like the Manchester tragedy is disgusting and I honesty don’t understand how useful it is or what the purpose is. So, now I know that I need to be careful about things I see online. I always stay away from sharing posts of that nature because I just don’t share those things. Now I actually have a reason not  to share these posts because they are made to use the human emotion to manipulate. I think you really have to look at everything with a fresh perspective. The information they supply you with can’t be enough. You have to use the numbers, look past visuals and think logically. This affects us because we use social media everyday and we see “repost this” or “Like this and then this will happen” and we just don’t know if these things are true. We have to be careful of what we do online because it could have a negative impact on us in the future.

It is creepy that people can just pretend to be anyone. The thing is by making multiple accounts they can add their opinion multiple times. People often go with the majority because sometimes people are scared to be unique. They are followers instead of leaders. Therefore having all these comments supporting one side can be very influential. Once again this just proves that you need to think for yourself. Thinking through everything critically before forming an opinion is crucial and not letting others influence you is so important. In my opinion having these skills are mandatory for every student and adult. It affects us because when we see accounts followed by important people we think that this person must also be important and so we might adopt the beliefs of that person. But in reality we need to think for ourselves and make our own educated decisions because we don’t actually know who these people are.
