The Veldt Poem

Technology Rehab

Scroll through the endless feed

Insides start to bleed

Technology, I need

It’s like a drug

Sweep under the rug anything bad

Portray your best self even just a tad

It’s a weakness

Hands feverishly fly over the key pad

Thinking this will make you glad

Technology, I need

Can’t get enough

Need your fix

Transfixed on the screen

It’s hypnotizing

If you don’t get enough you start to break

So, you start to quake, shake

Technology, I need

You must stay away

Break the habit

Get to another day

It’s an addiction

Why do we only focus on the tangible or the material in our culture?

If consumed in technology, we will suffer

That’s it

Leave it

No more

  1. Sophia – I like the structure and the rhymes – but don’t compromise imagery for a rhyme: “…just a tad…” – tad implies a small amount which I think contradicts your intent.
