Some song lyrics that I love are from Alessia Cara’s Seventeen, written about growing up and appreciating your youth. I was too young too understand what it means/ I couldn’t wait ’til I could be seventeen/ I thought she lied when she said take my time to dream/ now I wish I could freeze the time at seventeen. These lyrics show the change from when she was young and didn’t understand the advice her parents gave her to cherish her youth while all she wanted to do was grow up, to when she is grown up and understands what they were talking about. This song also contains many pieces of advice that her parents gave her growing up, such as ‘My daddy says that life comes at you fast/ We are like blades of grass/ We come to prime and in time we just wither away’ These lyrics express how quickly time passes and that we need to cherish it before it goes, as well as ‘Don’t forget/ where you’ve come from, where you’ve been/ always keep the closest, friends they can’t slip away shows that her parents are trying to teach her the importance of friendship from an early age. However, And yeah, I guess, that sounded nice when I was 10/ Oh but never were there truer words in all my days I’ve ever heard/ Then when she told me “Little girl, the answer is love”/ Those are words that I keep with me/ though the seasons change so quickly/ Keep them buried in my heart, never far. This shows that she had to grow to understand her parents advice and now it’s much more valuable since she understands what it’s like to grow up and be seventeen, the age she always wanted to be.
