Exponent Laws

One of the exponent laws I’ve learned this week is multiplying and dividing exponents with the same base.

Multiplication

Rule) When multiplying two exponents with the same base, you add the exponents.

Example

  • 1² · 1²
  • = 1(² ᐩ ²)
  • = 1⁴

Division

Rule) When dividing two exponents with the same base, you subtract the exponents.

Example

  • 1² ÷ 1²
  • = 1
