While doing my narrative essay, two things I was able to achieve was being able to show the story by using imagery instead of telling. I was also able to create a story that was well structured, having a beginning, body and end.

Two things that I would like to improve on is using more transition words to be able to make the story flow better. Another thing I would to improve is cutting out words that are not necessary and replacing them with better uses of words.  I would also like to improve my awkwardness shown through some of my sentences.

“The Watch” by Elie Wiesel

As I walked into the room, the first thing I noticed was the scent. The smell of urine mixed with dead bodies, lack of hygiene and sweat filled my nose. As I entered, I noticed bodies lying on weak and uncomfortable looking bunk beds made of wood, for about five to six people to share. They looked like a pile of bodies stacked together crammed into one room. Their pillows were metal bowls, with only their clothing keeping them warm. I could see their bones peaking through their skin and suffering in their eyes. I could imagine the people begging for food as starvation took over their bodies. I felt hurt, about those who have lost their lives living in a place like this. This uncomfortable room being placed with other people like a prisoner with no water, food, or proper clothes and beds. The sound of creeks as they took a step on the old wooden floor and the feeling of warmth soon came from the bodies that filled the room. I can only hope that this photo I took will spread a message about these innocent lives who have suffered in this horrific room.

Compare and Contrast Essay

Compare and Contrast Essay

To start off, one thing that I have done well in my essay was being able to use strong evidences to back up my thesis. I was also able to create a hook that would grab the reader right away as well as keeping my arguments organized in a logical order.

Two things that I would like to improve is my word choices. Most of the time, I would include words that are not necessary or that could be worded better. Another thing I would like to improve is my quote integration. Finding more quotes that would better suit the thesis, as well as making sure to avoid mistakes through the integration of the quotes.

Overall, I found this essay helpful to learn how to take points from different sources and comparing them, as well as learning how to integrate quotes with my arguments to support the thesis. In addition, creating the planning sheet before starting the essay has taught me how to organize my ideas so that I could see it more clearly.

Three Reasons Why Atticus Finch Is Unhuman

Three Reasons Why Atticus Finch is Unhuman

We all know Atticus Finch as a sincere, intelligent father who is willing to do anything to protect his children. He is your every day single dad and a hard working lawyer. A well mannered man living in Maycomb who treats everyone with respect, and always sees the positive side of everything. Atticus seems to come across as the perfect gentleman, and father, but under all that, is he really human?

1. He has laser eyes.

Just like superman when he is shooting lasers with his eyes, he somehow can see clearly where he is aiming. When Atticus drops his glasses, trying to aim for the rabid dog with his gun, he makes a perfect shot on his first try. How is that even possible??? He hasn’t been shooting for years ever since he had his children and now suddenly, he is still good at shooting? Wouldn’t he have lost some of his skills?

Even people who have been training to shoot tin cans from miles away for all their life will have trouble shooting a moving dog, with blurry vision. If Atticus dropped his glasses, wouldn’t he be seeing double? How does he make out the image? How does he aim the dog on his first try after so many years with no practice? For normal people, after not using a gun for years will probably be hard to even remember how to shoot one! They would probably get startled by the loud gunshot and fall shooting in another direction. This is just unhuman!

2. He is always composed.

https://sivawords.files.wordpress.com/2016/07/calm-cool-composed.png?w=1024

How on earth can someone be so relaxed and composed all the time, even on crazy situations? Him being a single father and being a lawyer can be stressful. No parent or child could ever do that. If he was human, he would’ve yelled at his children for making a game about another neighbour and trying to get their attention yet he pretends he doesn’t know.

When Aunt Alexandra criticised the way Scout was dressed, Atticus didn’t get upset or offended. Even when a nasty, mean, old lady spits nasty comments about him and his children, he replies with a compliment. If I were him, I would’ve smacked that woman and yelled back at her face. Yet Atticus composes himself as if it was nothing. How!? It’s impossible for someone to never get mad, it just isn’t! It’s a human emotion that you can’t control. Then here is Atticus who always sees the bright side of everyone and everything, and respects everyone equally, even though they treat him back like garbage.

3. He is wise

Atticus is like an owl. Not only does he have lots of knowledge, but he is someone who makes smart decisions that no one would even consider. He doesn’t allow other comments of others influence his perspective and somehow replies with these genius comments that tips everyone off their feet.

Just like during the trial, everyone is so convinced that it was Tom Robinson who raped Mayella, yet Atticus comes back shooting smart comments that no one else would think of. His questions are quite different such as asking was there a doctor called. You wouldn’t get it the first time why he would ask such a question, but Atticus would soon blow your mind once you followed along. His facts and reasons are all well showed which tricks everyone’s minds.

All his morals always sound like it came out of a quote book, but it’s said by him in his own words, a new moral in almost every single chapter, with deep meanings. How can someone come up with these knowledgeable statements teaching everyone valuable lessons on the spot? This is impossible!

Visit to Great Pallas Athena: Greatest Greek Restaurant in Town

Pallas Athena, a delicious, warm felt home Greek restaurant for family and friends, located in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, which my family and I frequently visit, due to the countless variety of incredible Greek meals. As we enter the restaurant, the smell of light, flaky marinated calamari and baked pita smothered with butter filled my nose. We are greeted by a friendly hostess who shows us to our table. As I look around while walking towards our table, I notice a striking white statue in the centre of the room, posing in a beautifully undefinable way. I take my seat, noticing the heavy metal chairs that screech against the hard wood floor as I begin to pull. While looking at the menu, a bubbly waitress comes to serve us. The item on the menu that catches my eye is arni psito, one of their signature dishes. This meal includes a perfectly well seasoned, slow roasted New Zealand lamb shoulder, filled with heavenly pockets of juicy tender meat. It is served with a Greek salad, lemon roasted potato, rice pilaf, and sautéed vegetables. While waiting for our meal, the waitress brings a basket of freshly sliced baked pita bread and tzatziki. My meal comes just in time as my stomach starts to grumble. Not only does it smell heavenly, but the light soothing Greek music playing gives me the relaxing feeling of being in Greece. The music is mixed with sounds of beautiful piano notes and a touch of the violin, giving the room a Greece vibe. As I take my first bite, I can taste the richness and tenderness of the lamb mixed with a crunch of the buttered pita bread absorbed in my mouth. The meat is so tender that it falls off the bone. The silky white tablecloth against my skin is fragile and smooth to the touch, giving me a sense of comfort and relaxation. As I indulge in my meal, the waitress comes by to check on us. This restaurant is a family favourite because of the excellent service and always amazing food. The meals are reasonably priced, from $17.00 to $25.00. We enjoy celebrating birthdays and family get togethers there. The warm and pleasant ambience this restaurant brings, together with the mouth-watering Greek food creates the perfect gathering place for friends and family.  I will never forget the freshly cooked meals, and I will continue to come back for more.
