Community Connections
For my community connections project, I interviewed an Instagram photographer because I am passionate about photography and I’ve always had an interest in photography. I think photography is a great way to convey emotion through pictures and is a great way to capture beautiful moments in life. For this project, I decided to interview Jessica who as I said is an Instagram photographer who conveys emotion through speech and photos. I chose to interview her because I love her work and love her passion for her job. She has a gorgeous theme and it is the kind of theme I would like to process through my work/photography.
I learned that following your dreams/passion takes time and dedication. It is important to be patient while following your dreams/passion because it takes time for someone to notice you and takes time to have a continuous audience! It takes hard work and dedication to become really famous for your work, hobby, invention or whatever it is. Jessica taught me to never give up on my dream and that not all passions happen right away. She also brought me to another word and open my eyes up to what pictures can really capture and are not just memories but they also convey emotions and meanings. I can’t wait to get my hands on a camera and try out some new techniques that Jessica has taught me!!
Q. Why are you passionate about your job?
- I’m passionate about being a photographer because, at some point in time, photographs are all we have left of the people we love. I also love photographing people because it makes them feel beautiful in a world that is constantly telling them they’re not enough.
Q. What obstacles have you faced to get you where you are today?
- It is really hard to be a photographer in a culture where EVERYONE is a photographer. Everyone has an iPhone and can take decent photos, so it’s been difficult to make my work stand apart enough to convince people to pay me for it.
Q. What advice would you pass on to someone interested in what you are doing?
- Shoot what makes your heart leap! Don’t shoot something just because it’s popular. Shoot it because it makes you feel something. Do what you love.
Q.Would you be open to further contact from anyone at Riverside, if so how can someone contact you?
- Sure! Anyone can contact me through Instagram. (Her Instagram is @jessica.juniper she also has a nicely themed website if you’re interested! click here )
Q. How long have you had an Instagram for and how has Instagram helped you with your passion?
5. I’ve been posting my photography on Instagram for about four years. I wouldn’t say Instagram has fed my passion, but it’s definitely given me a platform to be able to do what I love for a living!
Q.What are some tips and tricks you could give to beginner photographers like myself and how did you start getting into photography?
- When my son was born, I wanted to be able to capture all the different stages of his life. So, I started photographing him and posting the photos to social media. Pretty soon, other people were asking me to photograph their kids and it slowly grew from there (emphasis on slowly). So, if you’re getting into photography, be PATIENT. it takes time to build trust. It takes time to grow an audience. I’m still not where I want to be. But I’m learning to be patient.
Here is some of her amazing work posted from her Instagram @jessica.juniper!
