Poetry in the News.

Picture from: Matthew Abbott for The New York Times

Poisoned Skies.

Embers burn the amort world.

Beshrew is she now,

Your ‘home’ an egregious mistake

You made the beds

Cleanly now, freshly made sheets, quickly now

for you are safe. Your children told you,

The fire that haunts the deer

The paths covered by flames.

trapped by a storm and flinty minds.

trapped by poised air from different soil,

trapped by the limits of evolution.

they aid the recent and ignore the inevitable.

She will rebuild for what you took from her.

the life she created will be reclaimed,

experimental subjects will be the soil beneath.

Your words are the sentence, your breath the execution.

Fact means nothing to the upper crust,

only what came from the open air.

Reacting only makes it worse,

So how do you sell clean air?

Poem Composition:

I really liked the Plastic Mask of Self-Unknown by Nick Dermott. I showed how consumerism has taken over how we see ourselves and others through lenses that shouldn’t be there and have been rooted within society for as long as I can remember. It shows a future we could be headed towards, in the sense of purchasing everything including a personality. These days it seems that even relationships can be bought for money. I love how immersive and detailed the poet made the poem for the readers to be able to feel the same emotions the poet had about the current happenings going on around us.

How Neuron Function to send Signals?

Neurons are in one of three categories, Motor, neuro, and inter. They send messages to each other by the release of certain charged chemicals. Action Potential is when the neurons send neurotransmitters through the axon. Action Potentials is when ions cross the neuron membrane and cause’s sodium channels to open and potassium and soon after, too close again in order to create the action.

Synapse sends electric activity from neuron to neuron or from neuron to muscle. A neurotransmitter is released into the synapse gap and goes to the receptors in the post synapse membrane. The neurotransmitters are then sent to the dendrites. Their message is either Inhibitory or excitatory. Excitatory stimulates and inhibitory represses Action Potential upon receiving neurons. The neuron distributes Action Potential if the excitatory levels are higher then Inhibitory.

Anxiety, the real experience.

Surviving Anxiety

The article real explained the struggle of trying to live and keep anxiety at a level where living didn’t seem like such a burden. The author wrote a very insightful article in the way people are struggling to live and be comfortable with what’s going on in someone’s life. I made a connecting with myself and many of my friends who are currently struggling with anxiety. Although, I don’t see a lot of similar articles with as much depth as this author has done. This article illustrates how anxiety is still an unknown factor in so many people’s lives. Many people struggle with and are never allowed to communicate how they’re feeling or what their doing because people write them off or tell them they’re just nervous

Illusory Truth

Why the illusory truth effect works

What’s interesting about this subject is the fact that many people read about politicians and the recent news, believing every word they read. It’s very hard to find the truth through media. The author illustrates his article very formally with a rich vocabulary. He says “Any differences in how people thought did not impact the strength of the effect, highlighting that most of us are likely to start believing oft-repeated information.” The author explains very clearly to ensure the correct message be taken from his writing, the message, of course, to be to double-check what you’ve read online. The article reminded me a lot about American politics as the current president continues his war upon “fake news”. The president constantly accuses every media, that do not agree with his views, fake news. The only news he agrees with is the opinion based articles that share his views. The article showed how many people can’t decide which is fake or real because there are so many possibilities and different ways of writing them.

Creative and Critical Thinking

Creative Thinking:

During the first two projects, we collected ideas, formed a concept and interpreted inspiration translating it into our own style to begin the projects. When given a subject or topic to sculpt, we expressed our response through our artworks with personal and thorough intent.

Critical Thinking :

Working on the first two projects shows the process of creating a motif that is not only pleasing to the eye but will keep structural integrity without breaking or exploding in the kiln. We make sure to constantly think of the correct sculptural rules and guidelines such as slip, tools, cracking, thickness during the designing and sculpting process to ensure the best quality of our work to be situated.

Exploring Quadratic Functions

A quadratic function is one of the form f(x) = ax2 + bx + c, where a, b, and c are numbers with a not equal to zero.

  1. This is an example of a quadratic function: Y or f(x)=3x²-5x+10. This is not a quadratic function : Y = 2x +2.
  2. When using Desmos.com and entering y = ax2 + bx + c, 3 option appear so you can set a, b and c to the correct values you need. When setting a= 1, b=0 and c=0, you are able to see a line that curves downwards. The curve peaks at the point (0,0) and is identical on both the positive and negative sides of X line.
  3.  When sliding A above 0, the parabola becomes more narrow the before.
  4. a<0 = the graph has a maximum point and the graph opens down. a>0 = Graph has a minimum point and the graph opens up. -1< a < 1 = For this graph it depends where you put the a value within the given limits, it ranges from a straight line to a fairly narrow graph. a> 1 is very narrow as well as a<-1.
  5. When a is positive, the vertex is a minimum. When a is negative, the vertex is a maximum
  6. The vertex changes when you slide the c values.
  7.    Equation: y= 1x²+2x+1, Equation: y= 1x²+2-1, Equation:  y= 3x²+2x+ 3
