Scientific method scenario

Run Abbie RUN!

Abbie has noticed that her energy level goes down when she listens to mellow music while she runs colony farms, and her energy level goes up when she is listening to upbeat-pump up music. So she decided to test it out by running the colony farms 3 times with a mellow playlist and 3 times with a upbeat- pumped up playlist. She got the same amount of sleep over the 6 days, along with the same diet. Her average time for the first 3 runs ( mellow music) was 31 minutes and 36 seconds. Her average time for the last 3 runs ( upbeat pumped-up music) was 27 minutes and 16.5 seconds.

1.) What is the initial observation/ problem ? Abbie’s energy is going up and down during her runs

2.)What is the independent variable ? The music

3.)What is the depended variable ? Her energy level

4.)What conclusion should be made about her investigation ? The music does effect her energy level during the run. She should use upbeat pumped-up music and not mellow.

5.)How could Abbie’s experiment be improved ? She could always have done it even more times, she could have used certain artists music, she could have drank the same amount of water before the runs, she could have made sure the weather was the same and that she wore the same clothing as well.

Observation and Conclusion

by Savannah, Lauren, Kaitland and Callie

The challenge of this experiment was to design a boat that would hold a lot of pennies. The big challenge was that the only supplies provided were tin foil, tape, a marshmallow and 4 toothpicks. The boat that won the challenge was the largest boat. The more space that the pennies had to space themselves out, the better the boat balanced on the water. Lil boat / trap boat had a rim and small circumference. It didn’t do too good, with about 32 pennies. The most was 169. If this challange is ever given again, the way to go if the bigger the better!
