Praise Song for the Day
About a whole country with different people that are building their nation. Kind of like an ode to their ancestors. Recognize the different people who lead different lives and make the fabric of the country and coming together to celebrate the big moment. In the poem Praise Song For The Day by Elizabeth Alexander represents a strong message in which honoring and recognizing our cultural differences and our acceptance of diversity has fabricated our nations: “Praise song for struggle, praise song for the day. Praise song for every hand-lettered sign” (line 31/32) Coming together as one to build a nation that’s love is more powerful than our words and actions from our past: “We encounter each other in words, words spiny or smooth, whispered or declaimed, words to consider, reconsider.” (Line 16/17/18) For all the negative talk in the past has been improved and accepted because with our ancestors on our mind and the mistakes they made we have learned to honor those with differences: “each one of our ancestors on our tongues.” (line 6) Praising the day when the first colored man is leading a country, with support and love from the nation casts hope to our future. :“love that casts a widening pool of light” (Line 38)

Communication; believed to be the key to the survival of humanity itself. However, at times it is either impossible or very difficult to talk to someone across the world. Lives have gotten increasingly easier when Graham Bell invented the very first, functioning telephone in 1876. Not only did Bell revolutionized the world with his technology, but because of that, gates to communication on a global scale were opened. Nowadays, our general communication is through email, call or text. Others may use social media as an alternative medium for communicating their ideas, arts and talents. However, social media lately has gained a bad rep due to causing many cyberbullying cases and self-esteem issues. Although, like everything else in life, technology has two sides; good and bad. It all depends on how its being used. It opens up opportunities for young creators and imaginative minds trying to express themselves in a large variety of ways; creating online content such as making music, YouTube videos and photography. There are thousands, if not millions of influencers online who share their passions to the world using social media. Millions of people around the world watch these videos daily and some may be inspired to create their own content or express themselves in a manner in which they enjoy and are happy with. Technology has created many opportunities in almost all aspects of life, whether in businesses, medical institutes, government, agriculture, architecture and many more. It can build communities of people with similar interests with one another, giving people a chance to even have friends in another country that may have not even been made without the aid of technology. To conclude, though technology may have caused many problems within society, creating some questionable societal norms, it has overall been a positive change in life and with it, create maybe a brighter future for all.

Silence – by Sara Stevenson
Moments of peace,
Moments of glory,
Times I can be by myself and not sorry.
But, they never seem to stick around,
Never seem to stay,
Unlike the clouds hanging in the skies on a rainy day.
Peace has become rare
since silence became violent.
Silence pierces the thickest of anything,
Leaving absolutely nothing.
If it resides within
Unite with words to begin,
Then after the silence comes the speech.
Hearts once again jumping to the beat,
Their souls and lips chant and beseech,
Playing a harmonious music of deceit.
The poem “Silence” by Sara Stevenson is a lyric poem. In the beginning, she states that in moments of peace and glory (can be interpreted as “silence” or having “alone-time”) is a time where people can confidently be themselves and express themselves knowing no one is there to judge. She is telling her audience however that “peace has become rare” due to the fact that silence has become violent. She claims that “silence became violent”, and with silence, it brings along a barrage of violence (whether it be violence internally or externally). After that she writes that even if someone communicates to you, their words could deceive you. Within the poem she states that communication with each other may at times be full of deceit.

Is Trans Mountain Pipeline improving or diminishing our planet?
In the article, “Canadian Government to Buy Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain Pipeline” first gave me interest as the topic of expensive gas and climate change became a problem in the lower mainland. This expedition has been heavily protested by environmentalist because if any inconveniences occur nature could be harmed. If they were to build this pipeline the risks would be incredibly high and could contribute to climate change and other environmental issues; on the other hand the article expresses how it could improve our way of life by lowering the price of gas and further strengthen our energy industries. In the article, “New Law Would Allow Alberta To Restrict Flow Of Oil and Gas” has demonstrated that after months of protests and court sessions the Trans Mountain Pipeline has been approved by the federal governments, but the province of B.C is still fighting it. B.C will not be taking any ownership in this project. The authors of these articles have made the risks clear of making new oil pipelines. The writing within the articles have been insightful, and has made me more aware of the catastrophic environmental events that may be harming wildlife.
