Technology in my generation is a negative attribute to our society because of the detrimental affect’s that it has on our relationships, mental health and self image. Technology, has consumed us, we use it multiple times throughout the day, every single day, its the last thing we see when we go to bed, and the first thing we see when we wake up. It is significantly decreasing the amount of social face to face interactions, and replacing that with FaceTime, Skype etc. As humans we require these social and communication skills to further our own personal development. The way that the media is able to alters one’s thought process and self image, harms our ideas and self expectations to believe that we need to look or act in a certain way to be accepted. Social media has become a platform for negative feedback and deteriorating comments, which has made bullying much more accessible to someone who wouldn’t say the things they say online, to someones face. Technology also has an impact on our mental health and our general state of mind, whether it’s anticipating a notification to pop up on our screens or the lack of sleep we get because of the fear and anxiety of missing out on what might be happening online. Phones, Tablets and Computers are a distraction in a class room setting or work environment. Technology has impacted our learning and ability to comprehend properly, because of the addiction people have to their devices. Many car accidents and injuries have increased, due to people being distracted by their phones while driving or even walking across the street and looking down at their phones. Technology allows kids to access inappropriate or dangerous websites that they should not be exposed to. Technology is distracting and isolates people from reality, and it can be deemed unsafe for the general public because of distracted drivers and mental health problems that it can cause. There are acceptable times to be using technology, however we need to monitor and restrict where when and how the devices are being used. By educating our peers, we can limit the negative impact of technology by using it correctly.
