The short story Harrison Bergeron written by Kurt Vonnegut, is a science-fiction satirical story based in 2081. This story interpreted that everyone shall at last be equal, as mentioned in commandment #201. The Handicapper generals enforce the equality laws, and the handicap policy. As expressed in #206 and #212, citizens have to keep handicaps on at all times and the handicapper general is not required to wear any handicaps. Out of the 214 commandments, #205, #208 and #215, are some examples that show how much authority the government has. They have the right to imprison, detain or punish you for reasons as little as expressing your feelings towards handicaps, competing against other citizens, and to be found guilty of removing the handicaps. This may not be the ideal way of producing “equality” amongst many but it is the most efficient way of 2081.
