Edible DNA Blog

1. what is dna? describe its structure.

Dna is short for deoxyribonnucleic acid, Dna is in everything that is alive, the Dna structure is the sam in all living things. When dna is isolated (and streched out) looks like a ladder that has been twisted. The sides of the ladder the backbones is called a double helix. The 4 chemicals in dna are reffered to bases. Adenine (A), Thymine (T), Guaine (G) and Cytosine (C).

2. explain what the following parts of the following parts repersent:

licorise- deoxyribose and phosphate are the 2 substances that make up the backbone of the dna.

marshmallows-

(green) chemical base called Guanine.

(yellow) chemical base called adenine

(pink)chemical base called cytosine

(orange)chemical babse called thymine.

toothpicks- they are the hydrogen bonds that connect the base pairs (marshmallows)

3. did this Activity help you understand DNA structure?

yes because using the licorise marshmallows and tooth picks was a more visual way of learning wich i understand more, seeing the different colour marshmallows for different chemicals really was clear to me and wich ones bonded.
