This week in math 10 we learned how to solve equations using elimination. Elimination has fewer steps then substation that’s why I prefer this method of solving equations. Bellow are 2 examples of how to solve using elimination.

First example: 8x – y = 10

4x + y = 14

Step 1. Add the x’s together, y’s together and the 10 and 14

now you have 12x = 24

Step 2. now divide 24 by 12

so now x = 2

Step 3. Now you have to get find y. Input 2 back into one of the equations above.

4(2) + y =14

8 + y = 14

now minus 8 on both sides to get y by itself

y = 6

Second example: x + 2y =3

-x + 3y = 2

5y = 5

y = 1

x +2(1) = 3

x =1
