Rising Park Reflection

In my English 11 class, we just completed the lit circle unit with our theme park project. We had to create a theme park based on the novel with 3 rides, 3 shows, 3 characters you can meet in the theme park, and 3 items of merchandise that people would be able to buy. As well as a map that had to be made and a brochure that would be designed to sell the idea of the park. This put into use my communication competency because I assigned roles to each of my group. One person would create each part of the theme park (3 rides, shows, etc.), as well as one doing the map, and one doing the brochure. I offered to do the brochure, and this further improved my communication skills, as I had to communicate with each member of my group about their part of the project to be able to showcase it in the brochure. This resulted in the final product of a PowerPoint presentation explaining in depth our park, and a brochure to influence people to visit Rising Park.

Communication Core Competency Reflection

Communication Reflection on my health unit skit:

How does the artifact you selected demonstrate strengths & growth in the communication competency?

In what ways might you further develop your communication competency?

Self-Reflection

Describe how the artifact you selected shows your strengths & growth in specific core competencies. The prompt questions on the left – or other self-assessment activities you may have done – may guide your reflection process.

Recently in P.E. I have been taking a health unit that focuses on addictions and how to recover from them, stay away from them, and refuse anybody who’s offering you something addictive. The past two days we made and presented a skit that had us come up with situations in which we could use the three skills of delay, refusal, and negotiation to avoid conflict and addiction. Me and my group made a scenario in which me and my friend were taking shots. Our third friend comes and we offer him a shot, but he uses each of the three skills to avoid taking the glass and avoid conflict with his friends. This project focused largely on the core competency skill communication. The planning of the skit had me and my group members talking about who would do what, who would write the script, who would bring the props, and who would be each of the people in our skit. After we communicated that, we would have to communicate with each other to practice our skit. Lastly, even the presentation of our skit had us use the communication competency because we had to communicate with our class and present the skit that we made. The hardest part for me would be the presenting because I don’t like speaking in front of audiences, but if I continue to practice my communication competency, then I will get more confident speaking in front of audiences and be able to focus more on other parts of the presentation.
