Why is there inequality in the human society?
In today’s human society there is no equality. In the book Harrison Bergeron, Harrison lived in a society where “everybody was equal” (6). Nobody was smarter, stronger, or better looking than each other. The country was controlled by “the United States Handicapper General” (61). The protagonist George and Hazel was just ordinary people while George, “his intelligence was way above normal” (112), which forced him to wear a radio handicap in his ear by the government. They had a son named Harrison, who was put into prison in age of fourteen because of his charming appearance and his high intelligence. Harrison might be a genius, but he was not the nicest protagonist. Later on in the story, Harrison’s negative attitude toward the society showed he did not fit in. “…everybody must do what I say at once!” (250), he wanted to become a dictator, to control over the democratic society, just because “he is a genius and an athlete” (456). In the present day, Harrison represents people that thinks they have the right to treat others badly because they have higher social class. Inequality exists everywhere. A person might try their best, but doesn’t have the ability they are least likely to success. The society we live in doesn’t recognize and care about how hard we try, but what our result is. Because of this circumstance we need to understand that equality does not exist in our society.
