Exploring quadratic functions

1. A quadratic function is one of the form f(x) = ax2 + bx + c, where a, b, and c are numbers with a not equal to zero. The graph of a quadratic function is a curve called a parabola. Parabolas may open upward or downward and vary in “width” or “steepness”, but they all have the same basic “U” shape.

2. All the lines start at 0 and follow each other all the way up using the same numbers

3.a) if a is -1 then 0 is the max

b) if a is 1 then 0 is the min

c) not a max or a min

d) has a max and a min

4) Whatever sign A is, the parabola will change either facing up or facing down. If the parabola is facing up, the vertex will be at a minimum. If the parabola is facing down, the vertex will be at a maximum.

5. The parabola moves locations.

6. The parabola moves up and down the y axis.
