The police officer had recieved a call by neighbour who heard a shriek. They (the police officers) came to a mad man to search the premises, and knocked on the door. A mad man welcomed them with his relaxed smile, and claimed that the old man they were looking for is out of the city. The mad man guided the police officers to every corner of the house and welcomed them into the room where the old man was hidden under the floorboard. The mad man placed chairs in the room and sat, chatting with each other while he and the police officers were having hot tea in a friendly atmosphere. The policers did not suspect a thing. Only the mad man knew that the spot where he placed his own chair was the exact location of the hidden body. While everyone was all relaxed, the mad man started hearing ticking sounds, which got louder and louder. The heart beat. He believed that the police officers must have heard the sound and realized that he is guilty. He panicked. He freaked out. “Villains!” he shrieked, “dissemble no more! I admit the indeed! -tear up the planks! Here, here! – it is the beating of his hideous heart!” He confessed to the crime. He would not know that the ticking sound was his own heart beating.
