Character Sketch for Roger

 

Roger from the story “Thank you, ma’am.” by Langston Hughes is very cowardly and meanness person Roger first shows that he is cowardly person when he is at Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones’ house. When Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones says Roger to go to sink and wash his face, “Roger looked at the door-looked at the woman-looked at the door-and went to the sink.” (Hughes p.11) When he does it, it shows that he is timid person. It means he wants to escape from Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones  then he tries to gauge her mind or something.

Another character traits that he has is meanness person when he asked one question to Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones. Before he goes to he sink. “You take me to jail? asked the boy, bending over the sink”. (Hughes p.11) He tried to snatch Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones. ’s purse then he was caught by the Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones already, but he isn’t admit to his mistake and try to escape from Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones. . It shows that he is sly person.

Those things shows that Roger from the story ”Thank you, ma’am.” by Langston Hughes is very timid and sly person when he looks door and Ms. Alternately and asked one question to Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones.
