Iron chef reflection

Iron chef was an interesting lab. During the practice round, I first see and taste artichoke which was interesting. Beside that, to keep the ingredient secret was fun because we get to guess what the ingredient could be.

First my group were arguing either to make yam fries or candied sweet potato. We discuses and come up with a sweet and salty dish, but we were too lazy, so we only make yam fries. Moreover; the sweet yam I want to make was too difficult because temperature for the sugar is very important and the ratios between sugar and water. As result, my group decided to make yam fries. I’m happy with making yam fries because it is baked by oven, less unhealth than the sugar yam. 

During the lab time is limited, so we tried to find a quick and healthy recipe for the fries. Later we feel only fries is too normal, so we search dipping sauce for yam fries. First, we try to make a dipping sauce with mayonnaise, but there wasn’t any mayonnaise in the class; consequently, we make a dipping sauce with sour cream, vinegar and other ingredients. Another reason we pick this dipping sauce is the sour cream can pull out the sweetness of the yam and the vinegar will make the fries less oily.

In the future if I get to do this activity again I would do a recipe I have don in the past because I can know if the recipe will work will and know how much time it really needs to cook. If it is a new recipe I will try to cook it at home to make sure it works.  

Because of the time is limited we rape the fries with flours and oil, so it can be crispier. We also spend too much time with cutting the yam, so we put the oven to a higher temperature. With higher temperate and the oil, it did help the fries become crispier. I think in the beginning I shouldn’t be thee one to cut the yam. However, the yam tis too hard I can barely cut it. Late on I put the oil on the fries and put it in the oven and bring it out. Usually I’m the one to put things in, out the oven because I’m use to hot temperature and I don’t get born easily. If I get born I, it can be healed in 1-2 days usually.

In September we made many different and delicious food, this recipe gives me most strong impression over all the recipes I have done; however, when I was making the jam there was a fire drill and we did not get enough time to cook it. Even though there won’t enough time to cook I still enjoyed the lab because I was cooking with my pleasant team mates that wouldn’t take any jam and it was fun to watch the chemical change on the apples. On the end the jam turns out very well except it is too sweet. Due to there was not enough time my group have to broke up the job and help each other, but we still couldn’t make it on time. I hope we can get more times for next time. Also, I think we could pit more effort to clean the jar to make it less sticky. When we were pouring the sugar, some were spilled in the stove and it was extremely hard to clean. If possible, I think we can put less sugar and more lemon juice to the jam. The one we made this time is too sweet even there are less sugar.

1. I think I’m active listener and supporter. I ask my group member if there is anything they need and I grab it. However, I had a quiet group there was not much to talk, but we all listen to each other when we talks.
2. We have discuses what is stem punk and we end up with all using wheel and clock design. We had discuses Camille first piece is too aboriginal instead steam punk. Tommy had research sites to show Camille and I use what I have to show Camille what is steam punk.
3. We put our pieces together once a while to see if the colors are balanced and we all discuses peacefully.
4. I think I have success with working with other, we all add a wheel on the outer layer. We all used same color even though one color dies in middle. Using same color pallet and design are the gaol we have achieved.
5. I did set up for the group whenever I came early.
