There were many thing I learned working with the Van De Graff. It was interesting how different types of materials reacted to the static shock. Another thing that interested me was the way static electricity has the power to bend water and pick up various materials like confetti.
The combination of materials that worked best for us was the pop cans, wool, and the laminated paper. The most amount of rotations we made was 2. I learned how friction causes static electricity.
I learned that social media sites own anything you post or say when you sign the terms and conditions.
Street Pharm
In Street Pharm Allison van Deepen introduces us to Ty Johnson, a sixteen year old kingpin drug dealer who lives in inner city Brooklyn, New York. After Ty’s father is sent to jail he must run the business while his dad is locked up. Being a successful drug dealer has taught Ty discipline, hard work, and street smarts. Life is good, until a rival drug dealer comes into town looking to knock Ty off. He must be more alert than ever as he has to deal with school and his new girlfriend as well. Allison van Deepen teaches us to not live our lives in lies. To maintain this life style he must live a life of lies. He has lost people and their trust doing so. Ty must decide whether what he is doing is right and if the consequences are worth the wealth that he acclaims.
Who does Ty lie to? Ty has lied to many people, but most importantly to the ones he cares about lie his mom, dad, Alyse, and Sonny. These are not white lies he’s telling either, once they find out it may destroy their relationship beyond repair. If Ty continues to lie and hurt the people he loves the most he may have no one left in the end.

This poem was very powerful yet simple. I liked that there are two ways to interpret it, one literally and one with a deeper meaning. The one with the deeper meaning is about life after death, the other is about the life of a flee who lost his house/dog. It is good for a funeral because it puts peoples minds at rest if they are experiencing the loss of a loved one.

This poem was a bit of a depressing poem. I liked that it was different from other wedding poems because other wedding poems are usually upbeat but this one of about the bad aspects of weddings or marriage. This poem is good for a wedding because its not glamorizing marriage, its saying that the negatives must be recognized as well.

Life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly
This poem was a good fit for graduation. It is very inspiring which is good for graduates to hear because it encourages them to chase after their dreams and be happy. The poem is also saying that we might as well be dead if we aren’t trying to achieve our dreams. Another reason I thought this was a good graduation poem is they use the phrase “Life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly”. Graduates are like a bird leaving a nest, with new freedom they have never felt before, being able to go or fly as far as they want.
