The biggest impact that has changed my life is when I went to Houston, Texas and we were stuck in Hurricane Harvey for 15 days
We originally went to Houston for a few days before our cruise and instead of going on a cruise we were stuck in a hurricane for 15 days. While we were in Houston there was so many people panicking  everyone was in the malls buying extra clothes and extra blankets to stay dry and warm during this hurricane and all the grocery stores had nothing every store we went to was empty.
As I was outside just watching cars and cars go by I realized how lucky I was to stay in a nice warm hotel with my family, but that wasn’t the same for everyone else in Houston. So many families were getting  separated by the amount of water entering the house and it’s not like they can leave the city because it most arears there 8ft of water. So many families phoning, signaling for help just for them to leave and go to a shelters just to be able to survive. When I went into my hotel room I looked out my window and all I  could see from my hotel room was water, upon water, upon water. Everywhere you went there was water and mini tornados.

I started to think to myself after I witnessed all this, what if I was In this situation how would I protect my family let alone myself in this crisis. I wanted to help as much as I could but I’m only 15. So I turned on the TV to see what other people were doing to help, and they were on jet skis, they had big trucks that can going through this kind of water and were rescuing multiple families, everyone was brining canned food, chips, pop, anything that people can eat while there waiting at the shelter.

Everyone was doing so much to help this city but there was one fireman that did something incredible I still remember seeing this on the news, he went into the house got the whole family onto the boat and the dad told the fireman that there was a dog in the house and the house was almost complete full of water, without any hesitation he swam into the house found the dog after a few minutes of looking for the dog. But it just shows you that people aren’t doing this for publicity or to be like “hey I was on the news I’m so cool” they’re doing this to make families happy and to save these families.

In conclusion while I was there I learned that I’m lucky to have friends and family that do care about me. I’m also very thankful that I none of my family was effected like the others and Houston and this lesson while I was down there was like a wakeup call that you should never ever take your life for granted and every day that you are living you need to make the most of it because you don’t know when a hurricane or earthquake just appear.
