Character Sketch D

In the short story Same the Athlete, by Stuart Mclean. Sam was introduced as a very anxious boy that is going into middle school and throughout the story he starts to gain confidence in himself. Sam is a dynamic character because at the start of the story he was very anxious, he was also very shy, and he didn’t have a sport like all the other kids. The narrator talks about how Sam has tried many sports but has failed to be good at any of them. The narrator is also saying how he might not fit in with other kids and receive the same amount of attention from the teachers. One example is that when he tried out for the soccer team, he didn’t want to be near the ball, he avoided the soccer ball as much as he could. I describe Sam as a dreamer because when his mom went out to buy him “fast shoes” he thought he would run faster and be able to play all these sports when in reality it’s about hard work and skill and dedication. When Sam was trying out for the girls field hockey team they needed a goalie, after tryouts Sam went home and his dad saw him wearing a skirt and he didn’t care because he was part of a team and that’s when Sam’s confidence went thought the roof because his dad supported him.
