Desmos Art Functions Card 2022-Precalculus12

For my desmos project in pre-calculus12 I made an image using functions. The image I chose to re-create is the right wing of the slayer logo.

Here is a link to my desmos project:

Here is an image of the final result.

(1) how you figured out what equations to use.

For the first 100 or so lines I was trying out all the functions to see how they work, and what they look like. After, I got used to each of the functions I believe I became pretty good at knowing which function and which translations/transformations to use to get it to look like the line on the image.

(2) Did you have any challenges?

I struggled with very fine detail for example in the handle, there was a lot of detail so I struggled on seeing which lines I should copy and which ones I don’t need to. When I first started I re-made every single line I saw, which ended up taking a very long time for something that wasn’t even visible. So, I got a lot better at recognizing what would be visible and what would not be.

(3) Any aha moments?

First when starting the coloring and shading I didn’t realize that having a line under another line will put the first line on top of the second on the graph. When I realized this my life became a lot easier.

(4) Did you get help?

I did not get to much help from other people. Only at the start when finding out how to organize my folders. I did however, end up helping others.

(5) Did you use any strategies?

For the shading instead of making an inequality, I instead just made the line bigger, and changed it’s color.

(6) How did this assignment help you understand more about transformations of functions and relations?

I got really good at recognizing which translations, and transformations to use to get the lines to look like what I wanted.
