Differences and acceptance. They are things that did not go hand in hand in the book “The Chrysalids” by John Wyndham. In the religious fanaticism district of Waknuk, the people living there are less then accepting. Majority of the district sees differences and change in humans, animals, plants etc. as what they call a “deviation.” Change in what people look like were what was seen as a “blasphemy against the true image of God, and hateful in the sight of God.” John Wyndham, The Chrysalids. Through character David we are shown that in very few people it is still possible to dream as he says, “When I was quite small, I would sometimes dream of a city – which was strange, because it began before I even knew what a city was. “although it is seemingly wrong to dream of a new place in Waknuk, David gives a sense of optimism towards the story that maybe just maybe a change or evolution in the ways of the Waknuk district was upon them. Although there will always be people around that will not accept everyone, it is important to try our very best to accept our differences as character Uncle Axel states, “well, what real evidence have we got about the true image?”
