My class was asked to create a self portrait of ourselves as well as a word out of graphs made on Desmos during the holidays. Below is my attempt to replicate myself as best as possible (granted I am not a very artistic person). Right away an issue I encountered was underestimating the time it would take to complete this feat. I spent a lot of the time working on the face of the figure which I put the most of my work into. For the rest of the body although it took some work, admittedly I did spend less time focusing on it. The letters of my name were also a challenge, especially in creating rounding shapes, which took more time to complete than anticipated. A challenge regarding specific parts of my Christmas card was adding hair to my portrait. I ended up searching for ways to create hair on Desmos on the internet and was able to find a function where I could adjust and customize it to my will. The hair I added is not identical to the function I found online; I manipulated it to fit my characters head as well as made the “hair” look more fuller. Lastly a challenge I was not able to overcome was shading my figure. I ended up using more complex function than were probably necessary and because of it I was only able to outline my figure as well as the words in color. If I were to give myself honest criticism I will say that I definitely could have spent more time on the project. Although I don’t think the images themselves would be of nicer quality, spending more time finding out how to shade my figure would have added on to the finished product. I also should have made better use of function notation. That could have organized my work much better as well as make it easier to add on to my creation.
