Complete Chemistry App:
As I was instructed, I found an app about chemistry that could potentially be useful for the concept and reviewed its effectiveness. I have constructed 6 questions about the app and have to answer them to see if it is worth it to use. They are…
1. Is this app useful for chemistry?
2. How can this app help improve a student’s knowledge of chemistry?
3. Is this app easy to use?
4. How long does it take to understand how to use the app?
5. What does this app teach?
6. Is this app effective for its purpose?
About this app
The “Complete chemistry” app is an application only downloaded on androids through google play. This app is like an information holder of basically everything that has to do with elements and their concepts. At the beginning there are four bars containing ALMOST all the information needed of learning and using for chemistry. The four bars are, The Periodic Table containing all the elements, Chemical formula containing ALL chemical bonds possible, Concepts containing the definition of MANY scientific concepts that has to do with chemistry and Quick reference which gives you (and I emphasize) ALMOST everything else you need to know about chemistry.
Is this app useful?
Yes it is. It provides relevant information about chemistry and can be Very helpful throughout the Unit. This app can help you study or even help you LEARN information.
How can this improve a student’s knowledge of chemistry?
This app can be a great source for studying. It provides a humongous amount of information about chemistry. This can definitely help students learn a lot easier about chemistry without reading through a textbook or finding the information on the internet.
Is this app easy to use?
This app is definitely easy to use and to find the information. The problem is that it can take a while to navigate to the wanted information. This app shows information in a list of groups that are VERY big. For example, finding a certain element or especially a molecule can take a long time to find because it is a list you must scroll down to get to the right one. It would be much easier if you could say search the element on a task bar to speed the process up a lot. Take a look at the far right of this next image to see how long the list goes.
How long does it take to understand how to use the app?
Overall (even though there is a lot of navigating) it was very straight forward from the start. You choose what you want from the four categories and you scroll to the desired so in that aspect it is pretty effective.
What does this app teach?
This app really does not teach anything. This app only provides the relevant information and does not really have a teaching component to it. However, to make up for it, the user has a lot of useful information they can learn from to study from. If there is one MAJOR downside to this app, this is it.
Is this app effective for its purpose?
Yes. This apps purpose is to provide lots of very useful information to the user. It excels at this as it is pretty easy to find information necessary to do well in chemistry class.
Conclusion:
To finish off the “Complete Chemistry app” is a great app to have altogether. Yes it does not really teach you anything, but it makes up for that on how an app can be so easy to find information. There are a few small flaws with the app like it can take a while to find the desired information, it does not show the amount of protons/neutrons/electrons in an atom, and it does not show how to convert Formulas to word equations or vice-versa. But that’s just knit-picking as you cannot expect an application to be perfect. Overall I say it’s worth having for obvious reasons but its purpose is not exactly our desired one.
Great review Patryk, I wish that I could get this app but I have an iPhone and it is not available on the app store. I have seen the app before and I do think they should add a search bar as it would make finding compounds much easier. Do you think that this app would be good for studying before a test?
I’m happy you enjoyed my post. To answer your question, I personally would. This app is extremely convenient and provides tons of information about chemistry. As for studying it would be great. It literally has every term that has to do with chemistry and its so easy to find it (minus the length of the list). I hope i answered your question.
