Digital Footprint
categories: ADL 10 Assignments, Uncategorized
How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.
- Your ability to get a job, this can be affected because of many things you can find by just searching your name. When doing a job interview or just applying for a job in general most people try to be the best version of themselves or “put on a good front”. But in reality you can’t hide from your digital footprint, most employers will search you up before giving the job. What they find can say many things about your lifestyle, past jobs, friends, family and more whether the information is good or bad.
- Another way this can affect you is making new friends or forming new relationships, when they follow you on social media and can access anything you may post they may get offended by something you put online (even if you didn’t think it would be)
Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.
- One way of keeping your digital footprint safe is just not posting anything that could be offensive towards a group of people or just in general. Keep your opinions to yourself. Also don’t post any photos that could be damaging to your reputation such as photos from parties etc.
- If you still want to voice your “opinion “or post any photos that could possibly be damaging, you could set your accounts to private. Now I don’t mean you set it to private and accept anyone who requests, because anyone can screenshot anything, I mean only accept people you know you can trust such as close family members or friends.
- And the last way is to just not post anything at all or not having an account, this can prevent you from being tagged in posts that might have things you don’t want other people seeing.
What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them?
- l learned that you can find out pretty much anything about anyone online, those things can affect your future opportunity’s. I would say that you should probably keep your accounts on private and refrain from posting anything damaging.
