Neuron and Synapse Function

Neuron Structure and Function

Neurones are cells that transfer information. They are composed of a cell body, dendrites, and a axon. The dendrites conduct the message towards the cell body and the axon conducts the muscle away from the cell body. Action potential is a brief electric charge that travels down an axon. This is caused by the movement of positive ions in and out of the axon. There’s hold is the amount of stimulation needed to trigger a neural impulse. Resting potential is when there are more positive ions outside then inside. In resting potential there are negative ions in the axon this is called “net”. Depolarization is when the incoming message stimulates a section of the axon. Chanel’s in the membrane open to allow Na+ ions to enter the axon during depolarization. Repolarization is when Chanel’s open to allow k+ ions to exit the axons. The charge then returns to normal but causes the next axon to depolarize. Action potential sweeps along the axon membrane at a constant velocity.

A synapse structure includes tips of the terminal branches on the axon, the space between neurons and the ends of the dendrites on the receiving neuron. The axon terminal button produces the neurotransmitters. It stores the neurotransmitters in the synaptic vesicles which then recycles the neurotransmitters building blocks. When the action potential reaches the axon terminal it causes the synaptic vesicles to release neurotransmitters into the gap. The neurotransmitters then diffuse through the gap and bind to the receptors on the receiving neuron. The neurotransmitters then are recieved as inhibitory, which represses action potential on the receiving neuron or excitatory, which stimulates action potential on the receiving neuron.

Water conservation

Conserving water in Canada is necessary since water is renewable. If we do not take care of our water we could end up like other countries that are not as fortunate as us. We can use our water to help other countries in need and still have plenty of water for ourselves but if we take our water for granted this could change rapidly. Our water is used in many different ways and vital for many different living things on this earth including us. We also need to stop polluting our waters because we our putting our very valuable renewable resource at risk. Doing little things like turning the tap off or taking different showers can help keep our water clean and not waste it.

I always turn the tap off while I brush my teeth  IMG_4189-1w49g20

I am going to start timing my showers so I know they are under 15 minutes  IMG_4191-1hglltpIMG_4191-1hglltp

Canada’s Political Ideology

Which ideology matches Canada the closest? Explain with examples from your own experiences.

Liberalism matches Canada the closest because we have a goal of equality for example how schools and other workplaces are adding gender neutral washrooms so everyone has a place they feel safe in. Another common goal is freedom for citizens. Canadians have the right to make their own decisions like abortion. Canadians do not believe in the death penalty like the liberalism. They also have common beliefs in relation to education in public schools and global warming. Canada believes in the right to own property which is a liberalism belief. For example I own a computer and my parents own our home.

Sale of Ruperts Land

Belongs to the Metis Belongs to the HBC/Britain/Canada

– they believed that if they cleared and farmed the land, they owned it

– the Metis settled there first

– they took time to attend their land

– 80% of the population is Metis

– The HBC relied on the locals and Metis for employment

– The Metis Collected the furs And made the pemmican for trade

– The HBC didn’t talk to the Metis before making deals to sell it.

-The King of England gave them a charter, which meant they got trading monopoly over ruperts land.

– HBC ruled the trade in Ruperts land because of the charter that was placed.

– Employers of the HBC were considered owners of the land, after they had farmed or lived on it for three or more years.

– Canada purchesed the land from the HBC

– They had a good system That increased the amount of money coming in and the items that they are trading.

1) The Metis did have the right to complain about the sail of Ruperts land. It was the Metis land to start with. They collected all the fur and made the pemmican for the HBC, meaning that they did most of the work. They also lived on this land so it was very unfair that the Europeans were able to take it without the consent of the Metis. 80% of the population were Metis which mean the other 20% had control over selling Ruperts land when the majority didn’t want to sell it. The HBC relied of the local Metis for employment, which the Metis were happy to help out with but when it was there turn to do something for the Metis they failed to even consider the opinions of the Metis. I think it was unfair for the Metis not to have control over the land just because of some charter that the King of England gave to the HBC. Overall the Metis were left out of a very important decision that they should have had a word in so I think they have the right to complain.

If I was in the Metis position I would feel very used. The Metis put a lot of work in to make the HBC happy and for the HBC to go behind the backs of the Metis I would feel very betrayed. I would do similar to what the Metis did and complain a lot about what had happened.

A modern day analogy to this would be = I bought a new shirt that was nice, I would only wear it on special occasions, but my friend loved it so she would borrow it every once and a while, as time went on she started wearing it more and more until one day it wasn’t to small for her so she decided to sell it to her neighbor without telling me. The next day I see her neighbour and find out what she has done and now I am very angry at her.

Internal political causes of the confederation

Double Majority – A law had to have a majority of votes in both Canada East and Canada West in order for it to be passed.

Independence: independence were a group of politicians that don’t have a party

Equal representation- This means the representations of a region is equal according to the population

Representation by population – when the number of seats a party gets is Decided by the population of the zone.

Math – week 9

image

This week in math 10 I learned how to use a area model to determine the expansion. You simply plug the first part of the equation to the top of the area model and the second part coming down on the left side. You then create boxes for each term. You then needs to solve each box for example 3m multiplied by 1m squared is equal to 3m to the power of three. You them simplify all these terms to get your answer.

Math week 8

This week I learned how to draw a model representing distributing property. To do this you line up the first half of the equation at the top and the second part on the left side. You then prosseed to use the write tiles meaning the long rectangle representing X and the small squares representing 1. These models can only be used with small equations that don’t have Xsquared in them. As shown above you trace out the boxes to see what you are left with. The squares and rectangles in the middle represent the simplified answer.  I then recognized that there was three X that were positive and one

2. “I have hired a place to work on, and have bought two acres of land”. This quote explains how land in Canada was available and a lot easier to get.

“A man can get more information in Canada about slavery, than he can in the South.” This quote explains how Canada was more open and knoledgable then the south.
